going to grease the rotors to keep them from locking up? great idea. lol
LOL, so the race this past weekend... We all staged in Pahrump and had about a 15 mile highway police escort out to the starting line. Friggen brakes locked up on the highway! Embarrassing to be pulled over before we even hit the dirt at a BITD event, this ain't no MDR crap you know!!! So while waiting to start we're adjusting the bias and crap to purposely put a bunch of slop in the peddle and at some point the joke was made about just greasing up the pads and not worrying about it! So yeah, that solution was already tossed out sitting on the starting line of the race!

Granted, our day ended 20 miles short of the finish and we could actually visibly see the finish line due to the pinion support basically coming out the front of the 3rd. The bottom bolt is all that was keeping it attached to the 3rd and the rest all had the heads sheared off. Stupid hobby!

hahahaha, not that it was a big race, but we broke down in shawn hecks truck prerunning primm a few years ago during the fun run...... race vehicles arent suppose to shut off after 5 miles of a 30mph prerun. that was embarrassing for sure.
Pulling a pinion support out of the case is a good job... wtf did you hit?

I don't think it was any one single hit that did it, I think it was the multiple smacks to the diff skidplate that probably just kept popping bolt heads off from shock load. Those bolts are one of the few on the entire truck that I actually put a torque wrench on whenever I mess with them.

And yeah, at least we were near the rear of the pack so only the jeepspeeds saw us pulled over on the side of the highway! LOL

I broke 3 of the pinion support heads off my old race truck from the skid. What I did to never have that issue again was i welded a thick ass piece of 1/2" plate to the skid the touched the whole bottom of 3rd member so if it got hit the load was into the case not just the bolts. No issues after that.

Yeah, I'm going to look into some other mounting options even. Maybe make a skid that mounts off the housing rather than the pinion support. I don't know... I'll pull the 3rd next weekend so Jason can get it out for rebuild and we can get the truck mobile again asap. Then I'll work on the brake issue and look into skid plate alternatives as well at that point.
