    Default Envious Detailing: Ferrari 550

    Ferrari 550
    Black Full Correction
“Its already in great shape, not much to do”
Yes, you read that right…When the owner dropped the car off at Top End Motorworks, that is what I was told! Apparently the car had just been detailed and was looking pretty good. Obviously we have different ideas of what pretty good is all about! Swirling, RIDS, holograms…you name it, this car had it! Being black, I knew I had my work cut out for me, so I went in with a game plan of three steps to restore the beauty to this rather stunning work of art! I didn’t get as much done as I wanted since the paint correction took all of the allowed 15 hours, so the interior was left untouched, same with the motor area. I wanted to get those areas looking prim and proper, but I simply ran out of time since the paint needed so much work!

I started out with a waterless wash to get the surface dust off the car. It wasn’t terribly dirty, so I didn’t mind the fact I wasn’t able to traditionally wash the car and do the full prep. The car was then clay, three compound/polishing steps, paintwork was then cleaned, and finally sealed for durable protection…

As you can see in these before pictures, there was a lot to be dealt with from a paint correction standpoint! While the paint looked “glossy and waxed”, I could tell even before I put the lights on it that it needed a lot of help!

Yeah, I don’t think the license plate frame has been taken off in a REALLY long time!!!

Here are some 50/50 shots while working the paint back to life:
    Just compounded in these two:

All three steps in this picture:

Here are the final shots outside in what light was left:

    Overall process was:
    Wash, Clay
    Compound, Polish, Polish
    Paintwork cleanser
    Sealant
    Wheels, Tires
    Door jambs, Vacuum, Windows

Total time was 15 hours over two full days. (End of second day, I went and worked on a Lamborghini Superleggera, talk about a great work day!)

Big thanks go out to Ryan from Superlative Autosport for setting this up, and Top End Motorwerks for letting me use their super clean facility for this reconditioning!!!

Thanks for looking, any questions, please ask!

If i were to get this process done on my car what can i do to keep it this way? We have it washed every week by a guy that comes to my chicks office. Is there a special soap or brush that he needs to use to keep the car free of swirl marks?

$750-1000 - I believe he was charged somewhere in the ballpark of $200 by the previous detailer...you can see what that gets you from some other cheap detailers

He needs to wash it with proper mitts and towels, a car wash shampoo that wont strip off the wax protection, use a QD while drying the car, wax it once a month to help prevent swirling, and seal it every few months. Any time you touch the car with a towel, you will induce some marring, there is no getting around it...but, with softer and better technique, you can reduce the amount of swirling that occurs.

if the plastic is already hazy, its probably best to replace.

if not, then you can try http://www.detailersdomain.com/1Z-ei...ner_p_106.html, and then condition and treat with your favorite plastic treatment (303, trim detailer, cockpit premium, black wow, etc)

You've come a long way dude! Not in the work ethic or quality area but in the high end clientele market. Congrats bro, that's awesome!

I know it's not the same caliber but my uncle was talking about having his alpine white M3 done so I'll see if he still needs it. He's in Newport.
