Thread: VCHS buggy build

My high school auto class has decided to build a buggy. In our class we have just a small group of kids that are actually there to work and learn and I'm in that group of kids. We were sitting down with our teacher one day and brought up the subject of doing a class project. A lot of us are into offroading including our teacher, so we decided to go in that direction. The cheapest thing for us to build was a buggy due to the school doesn't care about auto and doesn't give us much money. We started this buggy in the beginning of April and do our best to work on it as much as we can,between class time and going after school and even on spring break because we want to have it done by the Delmar fair because our teacher entered it in the fair this summer. Here are the pictures of how far we have gotten in the past mouth or so. Sorry there not the best picture and I started taking them a little late in the build but I got most of the important stuff. Let us know what you think we would love some input. Keep in mind none of us have ever made a buggy before just our teacher ha.

i have to say this looks a little familiar.

in pic 3 is that a northstar cadi engine

why are all the floor tubes butt welded together in a couple spots?

we had to cut the bottom tubes and lengthen them because it was too short. doesn't look very good but its strong and will end up getting more bracing to make it stronger.

So little update today. Our build is no longer a bugget build, the owner of Kidfit came to us yesterday and really liked what he saw and wanted to get involved. We told him our story and what we were doing and he really hooked us up. The owner had a buggy that had been rolled and been sitting for awhile. All that was damaged on the buggy was the frame. The motor and all the suspention was fine. So he gave us this buggy and also donated a lot of money. He is also buying us any parts or material that we need. We got the buggy today and started tearing it down. Here are some pics of the buggy that he gave us...

i am soo pissed that i missed this for my stupid wisdom teeth. can't wait to get back to work on it. we should work on it this weekend.

nice build guys! what do you have into the project money wise so far?

umm we have about 500 and now that we have a sponsor it wont be costing us much at all.

Missing anything? Right down the street from you. VCHS was not around when I went to HS I went to OG. My Brother was a senior the year it opened so he finished at OG as well. I can see what parts we have around. Let me know and I can see if we can find any for you.

haha sweet glad to see a local guy on here. at the moment I'm not sure if we need anything because we got a lot from that scrap buggy. but come Sunday ill know if we need anything and ill hit you up if we do. thanks a lot for your interest though.

cant wait to work on it sunday. ive been all hiped up since tuesday. this buggy is going to be ssssooooo sick

so a few updates from this past weekend. seats are in and gas tank its pretty much put in. we got some bad news today though, we wont be able to enter it in the fair because they want it by wensday and it wont be done buy then. so we decided we are just ganna finish it and enter it next year. heres some pics from the weekend..

So whats up with the teacher guys?

our teachers name is wes bertram and hes a really cool guy actually. he came in last year and has really been turning around the class and make it a better place for kids to learn but its hard because the school doesnt car to much about auto. sorry we havnt had much to update on i have a few pictures i need to post up but most of us just graduated so we have been busy but we will be in there over the summer working on it but the school didnt give us much money so itll be tough to get what we need.
