RIP Jon Butler
You will never be forgotten!
Andrew my wife said the same thing! When I get the bar painted and back up on the car I will post a picture standing up and you will see how well it fits the lights. In fact at first glance I was worried when Mike sent me that picture but figured it out quickly.
Front work is already painted, now I just need to check the bearings and replace a few link pin shims and the front is done. Then there is the rear (OMG) and of course wire the light bar with all the weather Pack stuff I have (which will get done last in case I don't have time). Tick Tock
love the light bar pahl! good work mikey
I think those light tabs are bullet proof!

Very nice. I had to to the rust thing with a truck. No fun. Are you ever going to have rear fenders again?

Rear fenders, fixing the hood and dzus tabs holding it on, and mounting my UMP oil rack and jack up front are phase 2 of getting the car "done". So after the new year I will get on those things, maybe sooner especially the rear fenders. Then this summer I will install a new dash, paint the main cage and then paint the entire car. That is phase 3 and then Dielila is as done as I plan to make her. Lots of prep and lots of abuse after that!
Ah no. Drove less than 400 feet and boom. After jump starting the car, I drove maybe 300 feet and saw I had no oil pressure. I assumed I had the wires backward between the idiot light and oil pressure. I turned around to check and before I even got back to my truck BOOM!
FYI somehow I went from having pressure one day, I changed the oil and a gasket on the oil pump cover and that is what messed me up. Not sure what I did but it doesn't really matter now does it.
Motor is with my builder. He will let me know how bad it is tomorrow. If it's best case and the case isn't FUBAR he will fix it and MAYBE I can make the clean-up. If the case is done, I will buy my team mate Zac's old 1914 shortblock and have a motor in a month or two.
Its official, between the dealings with a shady supplier and "fabricator", THIS CAR IS CURSED.

I pulled the oil pump cover off assuming I would see a gear missing or something. It makes no sense to go from a perfect motor to ZERO oil pressure after changing a gasket....I saw nothing wrong. It is fucking cursed.
Mike Durkey builds my motors. He specializes in drag motors but is local and a legit guy. He has a 9 second bug he just raced this weekend in Pheonix. Maybe I'll trade him cars (his is purple too haha!!!!) At least when I blow a motor after 1/4 miles I'll have actually completed my task.
Gotcha. Im not dissing your guy, but Swift bought a Bernie Bergman motor and had nothing but issues. Took it to a local VW shop in Santa Ana and the same deal. Its now at Jimenez getting a reuild and dyno tune. IF, and I hope it DOESNT, happen again, take it to Jimenez and tell him you know myself and Brady Helm and he will hook it up. I took the Mini 12 motor to him once every year and for 600 bucks got the valves done, leak down, carb rebuild, etc plus a dyno tune and it would run all year on oil and filter changes. Only problem I ever had with it was at the MORE 500 when it sounded like a helicopter because a couple header bolts came loose (I didnt safety wire them).
I sadly think this is somehow my fault, I just don't know. It ran fine until I replaced that gasket but I have NO idea how that could have messed it up. If it is some wierd internal deal, I may switch builders just to remove that variable. If it was me, well then it was me.
I had maybe 600 miles on the motor before I blew it up in Ridgecrest, then Mike rebuilt it. I put maybe 200 hard miles on it since and it felt amazing. Then BOOM in less than 5 minutes.
It really sucks because I've never spent so much time truely preping EVERY part on the car at the same time. I always keep up on prep but the trans is rebuilt, the motor was rebuilt less than 200 miles ago. The shocks are rebuilt, the hubs were sevices, the bushings are all new. I painted all the rust and even cleaned dust off the fuel cell, pumper, engine etc while it was out of the car. The rack cleaned two trips ago and the heims were all checked for wear. New grease in everything with a zerk and new link pin shims. Mikey just added some NEEDED tubes and the cherry on top, I added a kick ass light bar.
What did my money and time get me? A blown motor after 400 feet. My pride is hurt, my bank account is hurt, and the fun pay off from all of this didn't even happen. It's not like I had a kick ass weekend driving around the wounded Warriors...I broke at camp and have no good memories to off-set this mess.
If it wasn't for the thiefs that have already taken the wind out of my sails I wouldn't care as much right now. But every step of the way with this car I have been beaten down by something....now it may be my error. The funny thing is I was going to put it up for sale as a perfetly prepped car and move on with off-roading on a happy note. Now if I sell it, even though it will have a perfect prep, I will hate this car forever!
does someone need a hug? lol
really though i cant believe your luck, sad to see this thing go due to circumstances like this. good luck

Well a quick $1000 in two weekends but I should have the car ready for the clean-up this weekend I think. I sure do make a lot of money to be this damn broke haha.
It sounds like the local shop gave me the wrong gasket and that tiny error reduced the oil flow enough to sieze the second main bearing. The only fun news is I am upgrading the cam and lifters to a more off-road appropriate one for $122 since the labor was already a must! (that last part is me trying to find the good in this situation).
The funny part is my car isn't even going to leave the trailer.
So, you are selling it? Now that its fully prepped with a rebuilt everything? The person that buys it will be super stoked. Keep it and enjoy it for once. The hard work is about to pay off. You are at the top of the hill, dont puss out now. You are done. You have made all those educated mistakes. Drive that POS. Or I just let you drive and co drive my race car 3 times for what? for you to sell the purple erple skittle? Come on!!!! You are obligated to not only race that car but to let me in drive and co drive it. Thats a fact.
Well Zac even though I wasn't going to when you posted in November, I am going to sell it now. After running out in Landers and now a trip to Glamis, this car is kick ass fun and I feel like I can sell it without feeling like I am giving any problems to the new owner. My wife and I are going to be moving after the summer so I won't be needing a desert car. I'll post some final pictures and a big run-down of the final specs later tonight. Basically everything is preped or rebuilt about 200 miles ago (two trips).
Where are you moving too Pahl?
Mike

pahl want to sell me your paddles ?im looking for some .are they on 5 lug rims ?
Ray somehow I missed your post. Believe it or not the two guys that came to see the car seemed more excited it had paddles than allllll the other cool stuff, so I'm thinking I need to keep those to help sell the car. I've talked to the wife and we have agreed on the following.
Bug and all the spares....every thing bug related: $8,500 Firm, lowest price or I keep it!
Bug and all that with the trailer: $9,500 Firm
Thats right, if I can't sell it for $8,500 I'm keeping it even if I move to Colorado. I'd prefer to sell it though so if anyone is interested call me!
Okay back up for sale minus the two "headlights" that were stolen. $7500 with all the spare everything. $8000 with trailer. Trailer is $1200 without the bug. Call/text and lets work out a deal. We can make a deal if you need. I can keep the paddles, communication gear, GPS, or HIDs if needed...lets talk.
Motor and Trans are at the shops getting rebuilt right now. Zero miles will be on both!
Weak man...sorry you have to sell. Just read your entire thread, your shitty situation with that Mike character sounds exactly like how mine went down with Gabe of Podium.
Anyway, whats this trailer look like that you speak of?
