what makes 2stroke carbs so superior to 4stroke carbs? they still have jets with little holes, right? gas still flows through those little holes, right? it will be cheaper obviously to fix a two stroke. there are simply less moving parts.
and why would you need to be a scientist to rebuild a 4stroke? ive done the whole valve dealio on my 2002 yz250f (pretty much same exact thing as the 426), by myself, when i was 15-16. it really wasnt hard. i go the service manual for it, and took my time. you're on a desert truck website. if the guy can figure out how to build a truck, im pretty sure he can rebuild a motor. yeah two strokes are easier, but you make it sound like fixing a four stroke is near impossible
as for everyone saying 2strokes handle sooooo much better than 4strokes, what was the last 4stroke youve ridden and how long were you riding it? dont get me wrong, i love two strokes, but there is a reason they are being phased out. when i went from a 2stroke to 4, i loved the smooth power, but hated how heavy it felt. after riding the 4stroke a while, i learned how to properly ride it. you cant just hop on any bike and expect it to be amazing right from the get go. it takes tuning and adjusting. just like now, if i were to ride my friends cr250 or my dads kx250 (both fun bikes, btw) i couldnt go fast on them. it would take time to adjust.
as for "all your friends wanting to ride your 2stroke.." Sure. who doesnt like trying other bikes? every single time i go riding, my friends and i switch bikes. that doesnt mean they all love my 450, or that im in love with their 2strokes. it's fun to try something different.
and to the guys suggesting a service honda: why? its his first bike. im pretty sure a 500 would make him never want to ride again. dont get me wrong, i love the 500s (ridden the cr once, and my brother had a kx that i rode a lot) but why throw a new rider on one?
i feel like this is turnning into a 2 stroke vs four stroke form hahaha
honesly get a bike that u like anf that you are comforable on
test ride a few weather they be two or four stroke
and decide witch one suits ur style better
and that 500 dont get it
but i will admit i would love to take that thing for a hot lap
hahaa
I test rode a few yesterday and i gotta say the 450 i tried was pretty scary.

youll have the most fun on a 250f. hands down. it will build confidence, and go faster than youll need it to. when you "think" you want more power, sell it and get something bigger
Thats kind of what i was thinking. Just get a 250 and learn to handle it then move up.

there is nothing supierior about a two stroke carb haha. Its the premix in the gas that causes it not to gum up when you let it sit.
i personally haven't seen it with premixed fuel ams and other synthetics as well as some of the oem oils have stabilizers in them to avoid issues with ethanol, but the main problem i've had with 4strokes in the carbs is the float valve drying out/ hardening, the oil in the fuel seem to keep the rubber tip on the valve supple, that's why i personally don't drain carbs when on any of my bikes to winterize them i usually fill the carb with a 50:1 premix on my 4strokes

Well i picked up a 4 stroke 250 last night. I think I got a good deal on it my plan is to ride it and resell it soon. its a 06 kx250f. It rides pretty good and looks clean.
Here it is picked it up for 1650 once you factor in gas. Its already for sale on craigslist lol.

I just figured Ill practice everyday and if it sells it sells and I'll try to get a nicer 450. If I keep the cash in my pocket I'll end of spending it on my truck.
Also forgot to add I got a 1990 cr250!

06 and 07 kx250f's are one of Kawi's best running bike IMO.

Man I miss having electric start I had to google how to start this thing!
The guy did some powdercoating on a few things including the clutch cover. The honda was part of the deal when i sold my quad.

Do you just build and sell CR500af's?
zac
x2. thats what I ride and it rips! Throw a hotcam in it and its a 1-2 kick start bike everytime, hot or cold, low or high elevation. A little on the heavy side compared to 450's so you can really use body english on it. very reliable, very fast. Im faster than some 450s. Really depends on the rider though.
05+ yz250. Sell that kawi 250f ASAP if you want to ride the dunes.

I didn't finish the last few pages so don't know If u bought one already, my recommendation is an older 250 two stroke, cheap and reliable. I've been a racer for 15+years and besides my race only bike I have an 03 rm250 I've ridden 3-4 times a month for the last 5 years with no issues, the good thing about a 250 is they handle decent and for a beginner/intermediate they'd have all the power you'd ever need on the track or trail, sure they can be a handful on the trail if you don't like 2 strokes but you can't beat the fun factor, I got rid of all my 4 strokes for recreational use and use my 2 stroke and never looked back, a basic 250 from 2000+ will be more than capable to do anything 99% of the riders out there attempt. I don't think a 450 is sound advice for a novice, there just too much. If you want a bike to be low maintenance and be there week after week to beat on then a 250 two stroke is your best bet. But if you can buy one that hasn't been tricked out, sure set up suspension is good but I've never had good luck with any used two stroke with motor work, I keep my rm250 bone stock engine/exhaust wise and it's the most reliable bike I've owned (besides my old xr's) sorry for the long post but being in the sport for years I hate to see people steered in the wrong direction
