Default 85 Toyota 2wd build (low buck)

well figured i would put up a build thread. going to be low buck as i am butt poor.
The other week i traded my 4runner that had a blown HG and got this thing.
bone stock 85 toyota 2wd truck with a rebuilt 22r engine.

I dont ever plan on racing, but just want something fun to mess with in the dirt, dunes and street dips

heres what it looked like when i bought it.
    Just another poop brown truck.

i didnt even drive it a day and i bought some CL tires and rims. the tires on the truck were bald and didnt feel like buying stock tires or new tires for a 14" rim.
picked up these, MT 15" alu rims with 31" 10.50s. two 1/4 tread BFGs and two new china tires

Well, these were sort of hard to fit on a stock truck. i rolled the rear bed fenders and that cleard them OK
the front was another story. I cranked the Tbars which gave me a inch or two. and with the help of a fellow DR member danny we pulled and rolled the front fenders with a large pipe
    super ghetto fab going on.
we alsu used a BFH to fix the back of the fender and body seam to help clear these. they still rubbed a bunch but i could drive it

next up was some fiberglass. saw a add on here and i jumped on it. the glass is hannaman IIRC. a little beat up but thats fine with me. i am going to beat it also.

Front fenders and hood went on with no issues. had to open up some of those POs holes to align the fenders a little better. We also installes some 2" wheel spacers to help fit everything. now the tires no longer rub the fenders but they still hit the firewall. so i will be cutting out the firewall one of these days to fit them. my end goal is to have 33s on there.

I am going to try my hand at making a LT for it and some nice springs for the rear as money comes in. I still need to install the bed sides too, but that will have to come next weekend.

yea, my old rockcralwer was a 84xcab and i loved the extra space. i tried out a standard cab and it just wasnt working for me (6'2")
now looking for some stock arms i can build some jigs out of to make a LC kit.

also did a tune up today. runs a little better
did plugs, pvc, air filter, fuel filter, cap, rotor, and some other stuff. need to put on my header and exhaust.

Very cool start, looking forward to seeing more.

Could you post more pics of the front? I wanna see how well the tires fit on the glass. I have a stock width 4x4 and wanted to get the Ivan style glass but thought it might be too wide for spacers and 31's.

here are some pics of the cut up bed. thinking about getting a piece of sheet metal to fill the hole and give it some strength back. but who knows. once i bolted in the inner panel it wasn't to bad

rear back panel. i cut the fender some so i could wrap it around the edge to give it some support. then spot welded it all back together.

on the inner panels i broke most of the damn M4 bolts holding on the panel. so i drilled them out and welded in some m6 weldnuts.

also reused a lower brace. this was under the front of the rear tire and now using it to support the front of the fender. as i am going to bolt the sides to this section also.

and fully installed with taillights. used some green washers i had laying around, but think i will pick up the bigger ones made for attaching body panels. also since this was used they had holes in them already so i just reused those. not happy about the bolts on the top rail or where they are on the fender, so i might redo them all.

    and the top rail.

went a little overboard with the damn green washers. I am trying to decide on painting the truck white or green

thinking white with black wheels with green beadlocks. but who knows LOL i never sell the green washers so i have a crap load. didnt want to use all the washers i sell to customers LOL however, i am thinking about just having a crap load of the big washers made. as it seems they charge way to much for thoes things. who has the cheapest price on nice fender washers?

on my truck the top of the fender uses rivets, looks cleaner that way and is almost flush

looking good though, definitely took your time and did it right.

How gunked up was the filter? I had one so full of dirt from the previous owner on my '88 that it took out the fuel pump, thought something was effed with the carb until I got a new filter and pump, ran like new after that.
