    Default Red Stepside build

Well here is the beginning of my build. Truck is a 2003 Ranger Edge 2WD with the 3.slow and an automatic. 2 door, I have a K&N FIPK, Magnaflow cat-back, superchips tune, and a throttle body spacer. I have a Camburg Performance 6.0(dual shock) kit with deaver F31s and their bedcage being shipped right now. I also have a SSBC rear disc brake conversion kit sitting in my truck waiting to be installed at the same time as the suspension.

I got my 31" General Grabbers today and the truck looks good.

The red letters look good with your truck. Very gnar. How do you like the superchips tune? Worth the money?

I like the tune... Definitely worth the money. I have found that the tow tune works the best. Those tires look so much better than the old ones I agree. Thanks

good to see another stepsider being built.

when you install the rear springs. take the bed sides off. makes things so much easier.

We're gonna pull the whole bed to do the rear suspension and brakes. Cut the holes in the bed and then drop the bed back on, then bolt the bedcage back in.

So quick update. Haven't gotten the suspension, moving to UCSD Sep 12. As it stands now I will drive out there with just the brakes added, Then will take the truck to Camburg and have them install it since they haven't been able to get the parts to me in the month since I ordered it. @$&%!!

I will take pictures of the brake install though for anyone that is planning on doing it on their truck.

Got the brakes in today. Fairly easy, had a couple of issues with misaligned and wrong size holes but not a big deal. Just be ready for having to take the axle shafts out. Its a little messy but no big deal. Here are the pictures.

    100_0007.jpg100_0004.jpg100_0005.jpg100_0003.jpg100_0001.jpg100_0002.jpg100_0006.jpg

They are in no particular order.

For anyone that does it: The calipers are on the rear side of the rotor, towards the back of the car. The bleeder screw ends up above the brake line, the parking brake lever goes on the bottom.

Truck feels great under braking now, stops much quicker and doesn't nosedive under braking at all it seems like. Great upgrade for anyone that is thinking about it.

Dropped the truck off at Camburg today. I already wish I had my truck back but I'm glad this is getting done. Will post pics after.

Lookin forward to seein this beast done. How much did the superchip tuner run you? I want more power. Well, as much as I can squeeze out of the 3.slow

The superchips ran me $350 dollars from Performance Auto Parts and Accessories - StreetSideAuto

Definitely use the tow tune though, it makes the trans shift so much smoother at low speeds. I run mid grade gas most of the time too.

For any of you that want progress pics, go to camburg offroad's facebook page and take a look at the "in the shop" photos.

In their pic the truck is on maxed jackstands and the wheels cannot be put straight on the front, the lugs are too close to the ground... sweet!

How much is the brake upgrade?? Wouldnt of it been easier and better just to pull a 8.8 out of a expo with disc brakes??

It probably would have been better to put an axle from an expo in there, but it would not have been easier I don't think. From start to finish it took 3 hours to do the brakes. The kit cost $795.

Thanks... It was pretty sick to look at facebook on my phone and see my truck on my news feed. Can't wait till its done.

figured that was the case... but I like the kit, and I didn't feel like dealing with glass or widening my step side to make the tires fit - I like the stepside and don't really want to do a whole lot looks wise. Kind of a sleeper that will run the dirt better than similar looking trucks.

Got the truck back today. Pictures don't do it justice so I will do a walk around video in the morning.

Does anyone have any tips or procedures for re aiming headlights? The back sits a little low so I know I'm blinding people with my HID headlights lol.

Got my truck out in some dirt today... ran awesome.

If anyone is thinking about a camburg suspension, specifically this one, get it. It is awesome, and camburg did a great job on the install. I've had nothing but compliments about it and the way it handles over dirt is incredible for torsion bars and leaf springs.

Thanks man. As much as I like the look of glass on some trucks, I don't think it would look good on my truck.

I'm pondering taking the stock front bumper and sectioning it... any thoughts on how it would look? then maybe make a tube bumper over it but save the bumper underneath.

this is an edit of a pic I found on the internet of the same year. You can guess by the license plate how much I shortened it.

    images.jpg

Also - How hard would it be to set up some SAW bumps all around? No big deal, right?

Thanks... I spent a stupid amount of time thinking about how this thing would look even before I started on anything. Gotta love senior year of high school.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with lights and a front bumper. I'm probably going to try and pick up some lights(at least dust lights) at the expo... then I just have to decide on what to do for the front.

I want to do something that will save most of the original bumper but protect it and give me some more bumper clearance. If anyone has ideas I'm open to anything.

just drill a couple holes in the bumper to mount them. or make a simple bar going across the bumper with tabs

under normal conditions I would agree with you... but A) this truck is going to glamis in 3 weeks and B) these lights are some big SOBs. 9" glass lenses and internal ballasts are heavy.

your best bet would to have a simple tube built for the lights to go on. i had some hella driving lights just mounted on my bumper on my previous ranger but that was a metal bumper. i'm not sure how sturdy yours is.

something simple like this cuz i know you wanna keep your stock bumper
