never looked at your build before.... good job and from back east you must get a lot of guys that think its a waist to build a 2x4..lol... i ran a parts store buy MMI and all the guys from back east that worked with me would tell me how they have a 4x4 of some sort that would woop my litle trucks but... i just went with it and told them i never had the money to buy a 4x4.
?
hahaha I live in Connecticut and built a 2wd ranger with a mid travel, deavers, cage, and glass every time someone asks me why i built a 2 wheel drive i pretend that i thought it was 4wd when i bought it like this and get real upset

Oops typo 4L80E...
cjs951: I guess you can't see the logic in upgrading? I'm not saying I know everything, but I have been wheeling way more years than you have even been alive if your age is correct...? 1/2 ton shit in fullsize rigs breaks if you beat on it it's a fact. lol

Hahaha all defensive all of a sudden. Yes my age is correct, not saying I know everything either, but I'd like to think I know more than your average 19 year old. I said there is stuff wrong with your statement cause of 4680e typo, ya know, poking fun at human error in typical dr fashion. And these trucks have 10 bolt rear ends, not 12. If you are referring to a prior experience with 12 bolt and not referring to what is actually in this truck, then I misunderstood what you were saying. And I never questioned upgrading. I personally wouldn't put a 14 bolt in my truck, but that's just me...
Yes it was actually in response to Dire E Dreamers "4l60s are fine they just need to be built right. drag race trans are the same as dirt trans alot of builders dont know this. "
If he's put 3? transmissions in it whatever he's doing has exceeded what his current transmission is capable of...unless he's having the corner crackhead rebuild them for him. Yes the 4L60E can be built to 600 or whatever HP and torque blah blah but add bigger tires and gearing and a good thrashing here and there and your done...If I were in his position I would look at something like this and be done with it for good: http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l60e.htm#4L60E to 4L80E (cut and paste whole thing not just the underlined part)
The 12 bolt analogy was just meant to illustrate a point that when you find yourself rebuilding a part over and over it's a good idea to explore other options... Hence the 4680e lol.
My 12 bolt was in my 83 1/2 ton Chevy (which was an "upgrade" someone had done before me from an even flimsier 10 bolt...) Iv'e had that truck since 1990 and it eventually evolved into a 1 ton... Had I known then what I do now, I could have saved a shit ton of cash trying to make what I had work over and over and over...and over (try 5 TH350 transmissions among other things lol) Btw, the TH350 was an "upgrade" someone did before me from the f a r crappier TH700R4 which is the predessesor to the 4L60E. Like I said earlier I don't know everything but I just hate to see others make the same mistakes I did with my money in the past.
FYI, I've seen a few 6 lug 9.5" 14 bolts swapped in place of 1/2 ton 10 and 12 bolts with good success and not as big as the 10.5 1 ton version either if you are worried about weight...
BTW no offense meant just trying to help a fellow wheeler
How many transmissions has he went through I'd like to know??

I've been through one of mine and that was before 37s, lt front and rear and before gears. Haven't had a single problem with mine and I only have the stock cooler.
He's real problem is all the sand and trying to keep it at higher rpms to keep the tires moving. I bet if he had some paddles he wouldn't have any issues.
I'm not so sure its the sand to blame and not just the air pressure he's running out there? I grew up in Coos Bay 5 minutes from the dunes and I've ran bikes/ trucks out there my whole life and never had any transmisson issues... If the tires are aired up, the trans will run hottter because of all the wheel spin and lack of air flowing around the cooler with the lower speeds. I suppose if you weren't paying attention or had a trans temp gauge to watch it could be an issue. Paddles can put more stress on the whole drivetrain and may amplify any drivetrain weaknesses especially if his trans has super agressive shifts. If you watch the videos he posted he's not on soft sand the whole time so paddles would be a fail for that area IMO unless he has money to burn on replacing them lol. Like I told him earlier, he should air his tires down properly and he'll hook up just fine, run cooler and prolly not get stuck like he did. I run my 35's on my Avalanche 2500 down to 10-15 (regularly at 50-55 psi) in the sand and still pitch it sideways at high speeds and haven't rolled one off the rim yet. lol I run my 44's (spare me the bro jokes) down to 5psi (regurally at 30 psi) and towed my fully loaded 26' Weekend Warrior everywhere out in the soft sand in 2x... I run my Toyota down to 10psi (regularly 35) out there too and prolly could go lower because it's so light... some of my friends run excessive air in their ATV paddles and I go everywhere they do with my knobbies aired correctly... it's all about the air pressure when dealing with sand no matter what you are driving... EXPERIMENT trust me!
BTW If you don't have any already and are lazy like me, buy some screw on tire deflators (which you preset the psi yourself) just screw them on your valves and drive off... they air you down as you drive which is f-in awesome. Airing back up always blows ass though lol

This would be the second transmission i've gone through (the first being the stock transmission with 125k on it). I don't air down my tires because im only in that area for a short section when I'm just messing around. The second transmission had something break inside it. Until I figure out what happened exactly I cant really say what the issue is and how I need to address it. I can keep the transmission lower than 190 with the fan on so i dont see why the high rpms would really matter. If i was in that deep sand for a long time I would air down, but I' not. i wouldn't have gotten stuck if i hadn't gone to slow (on purpose) to get up that hill. Also, because the tranmission is under warranty its free to replace for the next year and a half. A 4l80 would be a very expensive swap because i would need to get a new driveshaft and wiring harness and transmission crossmember.

dirt version of tokyo drift? haha probably has something to do with trannys going out...
clean truck though
Ass, grass, or gas, no one rides for free
Why would being on the skinny pedal around turns kill a tranny?

Maybe he only meant driving it hard, not specifically during turns.
zac
Well if it can't stand up to being driven hard somethings wrong. Whole point of the truck is to be able to drive it like i stole it, everytime.
