    Default My Ranger

Started this build with a pair of 10" King coil-overs and bypasses, a Bug shell, a tittle, a motor to use as a core, CNC brakes, Bilsteins for the rear, a screaming deal on a Jeff Fields trans, and a good excuse to finally build my fixture table. Somehow I now have a Ranger on jackstands in the garage, WTF?

Mikey, the king of changing his mind about what vehicle he wants, offered me his Ranger for a screaming deal, and I don't really have time to do a full build right now anyway, so I ended up picking it up. Here's what he did to it The Not So Mini - Mini Reserection

    I brought some of this

    and left with a Ranger

Didn't run, so we nerfed it onto the driveway where it sat while I finished the Toyotally Awesome pick-up

Got it in the garage the other day and started tearing it down

After some thinking and some drinking, decided the BTF built bed-cage wasn't going to work for what I had planned on this truck. So I un-welded it

Got all the stock cross-members cut out and the frame cleaned up

Started throwing tubes at it again

Picked up my buddy josh's dash, wiring harness and motor out of his Ranger that he's parting out (anybody who need Plank MS kingpin beams, let me know), the dash is going to get heavily reworked to give me room for a couple more gauges, race radio and intercomm, 7" GPS and if it fits, a glove-box.

Plans beyond what i've got going on here are a complete re-wire, finish up some loose ends in the cage and engine compartment, a Mountaineer conversion clip if I can find the glass cheap enough, single swing steering, full tear-down prep, paint, and some other crap.

Lots more to some, stoked to finally be building something for myself again rather than just my endless list of projects for other people.

Yep, or you can switch to OBD2, I have 4 of those harnesses.

Truck is all parted out, cut up and scraped for the most part.

The bed cage is long gone.

Yep, had to put the truck out of it's misery. The top of the cage needed to be welded, but there was already a metric shit-ton of plating (all .125" too, WTF?), so the "easy" option was to cut holes in the roof, but fuck that. The correct way to fix it was to cut all the plating out, scrap the roof, weld up the cage and then replace the roof and re-plate with .045" like it should be, major fuck that on that option. I have no time to deal with all that headache, the main reason I picked the truck up was to get it in the dirt fast, only way to do that is to pay a shop to build it, Viking is the only shop I'd trust in Ventura County and not only is Sean backed up with work, but the time I paid for what I wanted, I could just buy a fully built truck that's currently sitting in a garage with zero miles on a ground up build, and while neither one is exactly how I'd want it, the other Ranger is a whole lot closer.

Not fixing the cage would mean no racing, no racing means prerunner, and that, to me means, full interior, heater, AC, links, equal length beams, the works, easier to just shake the Etch-a-Sketch and start over fresh. Almost held on to the cab for another project, but decided to just send her to the glue factory.

did you at least make your money back in parts? sucks to hear but you have a good head on your shoulders and know better than to open a giant can of worms.

I'm about even money wise, and still have a shitload of parts that I need to sell. I'll end up cleaning up pretty nicely when everything is sold off. Also doesn't hurt that about half the cash I paid for the truck with came from selling off the parts for another couple ideas, doubled my money or better on all that stuff.

Still contemplating what my next build it going to be, in the last 12 months I've only gone to the desert twice, so I'm torn. I have time to slowly build exactly what I want, but I have no motivation to spend $50-75k building the truck I really want, only to use it once, maybe twice a year. I'm also obsessive when it comes to prep, 2 days of thrashing a truck in the dirt means a month or two of prep-work. I've got all kinds of parts in the works for a friend's race truck, got the f100 on the way, the Taco, tons left to do on E's Yota, and a new company to launch, so in between my 80-90 hour weeks at work, I've got plenty to keep me busy without a project truck of my own.
