a simple cage isnt really hidden but can be done pretty easily and wont get in the way or draw attention.
yeah I know it wont be completly hidden but I want it hidden as much as possible. most I see have a bar going across right behind the front seats...is that necessary?
and I went to your bumper how to and I get this error:
Sorry, the board is unavailable at the moment while we are testing some functionality.
We will be back soon...
whats up with that?
its more or less used for harnesses up until you really start triangulation the cages main structure.
yea, idk whats going on with it. ill copy and paste it to DR when its back up.
so Ive decided what suspension Im going with:
BTF is gonna make me a custom mid travel kit, using the coil bucket and some 2.0s. uniballs upper and lower, and ill be working on getting some heim steering..might have to be custom made...maybe. Brandon said it would have roughly 13in of travel. Im fine with that. not gonna be jumping canyons but should fly around the ranch pretty good. rear is gonna have some deavers and some sort of shock, havnt decided yet. ideas?
this is just my opinion but if you are gonna spend the cash for a custom mid travel kit just go the little extra mile and get a long travel kit. i say this because from what ive seen everyone that goes the mid travel route ends up wanting a lt kit and wishing they went that way in the first place. it will costa bit more and involve more work but in the end im sure youll be much happier. thats just my 2 cents, its your truck and ultimatley your decision
thanks for the advice. and I have thought about it. but Id like to have the option to be able to return it to stock if need be. When all said and done a true long travel kit will cost atleast 2x more than this kit and i do not have experience with doing the work, yes its easy to cut it all off and weld up a hoop and engine cage but I havnt done it and this is myDD that cant have too much down time. I should have it by spring break...sooo....ill have a week to put it all on haha It only took me and another friend 2 days to put on my fabcrap 7.5 front and rear so this one shouldnt take too long. the 2.0s will be a tad on the long side so Ill have to cut a hole in the top of the coil bucket for it to fit through then weld up some tabs for it to bolt to. easy enough. Once I get my engineering degree and get a job then ill get anotherDD and cage and long travel the crap out of this one.
yeah i know what you mean man, in your situation it will be more practical and beneficial. anyways i wish you luck and hope you enjoy the kit. btf definitley puts out some good quality stuff
thats what Ive heard. was going to just go with the camburg kit...but started looking around and talked to BTF today, all the work I want till only cost about 3k (front and rear) and ill be happy with it. (i dont want balljoints anywhere, camburg uses them on the lower still.)
stay tuned hopefully ill have the kit by mid march. If I do then ill use the first 1/2 of my spring break to put it on and get it aligned then go to south texas to meet up with a couple buddies and build a sick bumper to replace my heavy snow plow haha
heres an update: Brandon over at BTF is making me a mid travel kit. boxed uppers, lowers fabbed up lift spindle with a double sheer steering. and ill be running a fox 2.0 as well. for the rear Ill be running some F79s with a drop shackle to make it sit level. Im thinking about making some shock hoops....like this:
yall think that would be a good idea instead of where they are now? Im sure it might help keep it a tab bit more stable like the new f150s with the shocks on the out side of the frame....
No, unless your going to do a crossmember where they are now is fine. Why don't you just do a traditional bedcage design and keep it simple? Look dude to each his own but be carefull about this kinda shit, what you want to build is going to be one heavy mother fucker and from some of you're previous stuff you posted up here I would definately suggest NOT attempting to build anything until you have got some more experience. Keep in mind you're going to need new brake lines aswell because we would all hate to see you get hurt.
Ohh shit look at this there just so happens to be a fucking shop in Richland Hills "within 40 miles of you," that builds sicky gnar prerunners. Luckily for you they happen to be one of the only places in texas that does this kind of thing. Rock And Roll Offroad Store.
And boom goes the dynamite....
My bumper was done a long time ago, I now have a lot of experience with metal fab stuff (not like some of y'all with building complete rigs though) however I just want to keep it simple and sturdy. I have already upgraded my brake lines to ss braided 12in longer than stock. I will also have a couple buddies who will help me build my new bumper.
And I've been to RnR, they got some pretty sick stuff!
And boom goes the dynamite.
What kind of shocks are you going to run?
That is a good question. I'm making a call to deaver today to order my leafs and see what they recomend
And boom goes the dynamite.
any progress on the new bumper?
Not yet. Starting tomorrow afternoon.
And boom goes the dynamite.
Brandon at BTF has been swamped with work so its taking longer than expected, however it shouldnt be much longer I hope.
