Default 99 Silverado Buildup

    First Stage: Front End!
Jig and mock up time. *Used mild steel and some extra bungs around the shop. *4130 will be used for the final with grade 8 bolts thoughout. *4'' over arms with 10'' duel rate coil overs. *Hannemann 5'' fiberglass is on order.

Picked up a 35'' for mock up for $40 bucks!

    First day of mock up

Need to give more degree to the uniballs cups so I get the right travel

CST spindles, got 'em for a deal!

    10 inchers

LCA jig mock up. *I had to size down the bushing kits to fit

    Just like my BMX

Self in shop machining. Right is before, Left is after.

Fit beautifully, I was super stoked

Waiting for the damn fiberglass for ORW so I can continue the build. *I have almost all the materials just need some new bungs from Kartek and some DOM for the engine cage.

Anyone know where I can get G8 3/4 by 6'' fine thread bolts and nuts? *I cant find them anywhere!

My local Ace's are great for grade 8 except they don't have any fine thread.

If you are looking for 12 point stuff you could try G&J Aircraft (909) 986-6534 or Deering Industries (562) 595-1668.
Make sure you calculate your grip length before calling.
If you are just looking for basic Grade 8 or 9 McMaster Carr has a lot of stuff usually at your door step next day.

the stock sized bolt is a 9/16 so i just replaced it with a G8. its my DD and when i get new parts in i wait till my day off, tear down the pass side suspension and put what ive worked on back on and go from there with the mock up etc so it just seamed right to keep it the same.

    Fenders came today!

Decided to throw them on real quick (held with some clamps). *I was super stoked on the look and the flair (5'&#39. *I didnt want too much flair but i still wanted plenty of tire tuck room so it worked out good.

without the core support i have 10 inches of up travel from ride height. *anyways back down to the shop to take it all off and put the stock suspension + lift spindle setup back on by tonight so i can drive to work in the morning!

as for travel numbers i dont know exactly right now because the stock droop bump is still there. *the fucking thing is limiting the travel to 2 inches of droop from ride height!!! **way lame. *i do have 10 inches of up travel though . *tomorrow is my day off so ill be working on the arms and correcting it all. *i calculated that the uniballs themselves need to be angled about 16 degrees so i can get decent down travel numbers but still retain the 10'' up without the core support. *if you look at the picture of them together they are close to topped out already at ride height. *i will post pics tomorrow of the new setup. *figure i will get at least 17'' with this setup but we'll see.

off road expo was great today. i got in with my dad before the crowd did (myers manx booth) and almost orgasmed at this black single cab silverado! *go single cabs. *got alot of ideas for the finishing touches of my setup.

my dads manx

single cab

anyways talked to the guys at camburg and im going to order up some of their inner machined cleviss from their chevy kit along with the rest of the parts i need to finish the front end from kartek tomorrow. *anyone see the replacement camburg chevy hub at the show!?! *thing was bitchen. *definatly going to have to hit that up in the future.

alright got some more small parts today and fixed the arms deal. *angled the uniballs 15 degrees and cycled the suspension with the fiberglass on...and metal to metal i got 14.5... * so basically im pissed. *4.5 inches over arms and 14.5 inches. *double checked the full cst kit since i used their uniball spindles and they claim to get 14'' at 3'' over arms. *

another thing...i bought an aftermarket wheel hub bearing assembly from kregan and it wont go into the cst spindles! *it bottoms out on the backing plate and has about 1/2'' gap all the way around.

someone help quick cause im losing it right now. *did i go the wrong way going with cst spindles!? *and should i have gone with a vertical mounted uniball setup on the top?

ill post pics to show it all.

did you pull out the bumpstop? you'll have to trim the droop limiter thing under the upper arm

did you try kicking the uniball cups at different angles, both the upper and the lower. thats usually what limits the travel is the uniball bottoming out. what is causing it to not drop out or stuff up? cut and trim shit, you can get more than that, my buddy got 17 strapped with a modified lift spindle on his silvy 4x4.

i should have taken a picture but here is the scoop. i cut the droop bump plate off and pulled the bump stop off and just clamped the fenders on and cycled it. no problem with space to go up and down but the uniball just wouldnt go anymore. at full bump tucked deep in the fenders the uniball would be tapped out (this is after i added 15 or so degrees to the setup picture above). and when i let it down to full droop it would tap out on the other side of the uniball. the measurement came out to 14.5'' at 4.5 inches over. every kit that i have seen on my body style and newer as put the uniball vertical on the upper arms. i called kartek and they quoted me for the camburg LT spindle so i think i am going to get that and sell the CST spindle because after alot of thinking and trys its not going to get more that 14.5. with longer arms maybe but i dont want it gnar wide. its already 91'' with 35''s.

Try adding spacers between the upper uniball and the spindle. You can later weld these in. 1-2" will do wonders but may add some bump steer.

same fucking price as the CST's, a grand. *i made a huge mistake getting these spindles for my setup. *im sure it would work better with another application but like i said i dont want sicky gnar wide on my DD. *91'' TW is plenty and going from 8'' of travel to the projected 16+ (with the camburg spindle) is also enough. *anyways next paycheck im going to get the camburg ones. *anyone want to buy the CST's? *i got them for a grand and am selling them for $600.

heres a question for anyone that is running these spindles or at least the 6.5 performance kit: david at kartek said the upper uniballs are "pressed in". *jw but pressed in like a ball joint to an upper arm?

didnt help it took some of the up travel and gave me some down travel but didnt solve it. *thanks for the help though man . *i think the camburg spindle is the way to go. *thinking about going all the way and getting the blitz hub upgrade and fox 2.5 2 tube bypasses.

The ball is pressed into the uniball race, yes. The uniball is held into the cup by a snap ring.

The whole uniball assembly is pressed into the cup on the spindle because after its welded, the cup closes up a little and the uniball doesn't just slide right into the cup. They machine the cup tight so the uniball doesn't bounce around. Also keeps the uniball from spinning in the cup.

alright small update. *not really much on the suspension but i machined down the bushing kits for the lca on the drivers side so im set on those and i plan to finish the uca heimed spacers tomorrow. *worked on my bumper today though. *capped the ugly frame hole and capped the ends of the bumper itself and repainted the whole thing. *(and yes i have a skidplate i just didnt take a pic with it on)

had some time on my hands a while ago so i fabbed up a center console to hold a couple of gauges and switches for the 4 hellaed light bar i built.

still have to mount it and bolt the 3 pieces together but you get the idear.

    Updates + Pictures!
I knew I could count on Camburg despite what some people have told me. *To make a long story short I decided to get the spindles straight from them. *I talked directly with Scott and he got them all set up for me. *Major props to him. *He helped me out getting the right parts I needed and also before with the million questions at the off road expo so I was stoked he treated me good once again. *Thanks man I appreciate it ALOT. *So the build continues...

No sense in carrying a spair with no jack (factory one doesnt count and doesnt work with lift) so I purchased a aluminum 4000lb jack from Harbor Freight, built a skid plate for it, and a quick release mounting setup for the truck...

Pre-welded on truck

Frame

Handles on the jack at perfect

If you look close on the last picture you can see the hood pin that holds it in, its just under the grab handle. *Front is held in by the original wheel spindle and tabs I cut out for them to slot into. *Came out good.
