Absolutly not. Has it worked for me and many others? Yes! For a couple bucks and about 5 minutes of work. That is where I would start.

My opinion is based on years of motor building and blowing them up. The link to the website was just to save Me a lot of typing. I have never had any good results with restrictor plates and have taken them out of plenty of motors. The only time they will help is if you have a weak cap. They will build more block pressure to hold of boiling a little longer, but not much.

Still no luck today. blead the system very well...wont go into detail...got 99.999% of the air out. installed the t-stat with the 1" restricter hole in the center. tested it and still heated up on load within 5 minutes. So I called Colby at turnkey for help. Now I took the t stat out again completely. Took out the freeze plug Danzio installed and put a new freeze plug in with a drilled/deburred 3/16th hole in the center of it and stuck it back into the water pump behind the housing. Like in the pic a few pages back. Gotta bleed the system again and hope this works. If not I will try a 180 t-stat and no freeze plug. Possibly the hi-flow one from Stewart. Was talked out of that yesterday. Wont hurt to try it. This is being more complicated than it needs to be. No big deal. It will work out eventually. Keep on truckin.

Okay Okay Okay. I'm excited the truck never ran above 210. So there is an improvement but my goal is 180 constant. Thats what it should be at. I'm hoping this detail will help others that may have this situation in the future. Any mechanics know why when you don't run a thermostat that a freeze plug would be put in there. Just to restrict flow or is there another reason? Maybe my issue is not enough flow. Not sure if I should run no thermostat and no freeze plug all together. The 3/16th hole helped noticeably.

210 isnt bad. it does sound like your not getting enough flow if it heats up that quick. do you know what the temp in the radiator is?

If I remember correctly from the handheld thermometer it read from 155-162 depending on where you placed the beam. The output side back to the motor was lower because it had already cooled. Those numbers are off memory. I didnt write them down. I could be off slightly. My friends shop I took it to said it was circulating at a correct temp and fairly even inside the radiator. I'm going to try the pechanga wash again tomorrow mid day when its warmer and see how it does with more load on the engine.

Its running okay. I threw in a 180 tstat yesterday and took out the freeze plug with the 3/16th hole in it. It ran at 210 on the dot today. When I hit buck road in Temecula and was around 4500 RPM constant it jumped quickly to around 230-235. So Im going to take that out and keep trucking with a few more options I have in mind. My goal is 180.
    Next I will try the:

    * Cored out t-stat (1" hole in t-stat center) with no freeze plug.
    * No freeze plug and/ no tstat
    * Bigger hole in a new freeze plug/ no tstat (3/16th hole has been most succesful)
    * Drill 5, 1/8" holes in the tip of t stat and re instert with no freeze plug.

After that, if nothing works .....well who knows. Ill figure it out.

I too had overheating problems initially with my ls1 toyota. My radiator is a huge alloy unit mounted behind the cab, with water pipes running under the cab. This made it vital to blead air from the system as it had nowhere to go (I plumbed the air vent pipe from the head into one of the water pipes going to the radiator). In this air vent pipe from the head I put in a 3 way t with a tap to bleed the air. On this tap I put a clear plastic hose which goes up over the roof and into the radiator tank.(this is only temporary) It is amazing how much air is caught in the motor as the bubbles can be seen rising up the clear hose. I get the motor hot and stop it and let it cool down. This is repeated a few times. Each time I always get another burp from the motor. Once satisfied, the tap is closed and the clear tube is removed. I have raced with and without a theremostat and had no problems, 180 all day.

    Default 1st Video!

Took the truck out to Ocotillo last Wednesday/Thursday. First real shakedown run with no problems. Weather was good. Place was empty. We only spent about 10 minutes filming because we were having so much fun driving around. When I was driving home I thought of so many spots I wish I would have filmed. Like the whooped out section on the North side of the Hwy from the Airport all the way to the Blu In. Oh well. Next time. I put together a quick video tonight of some of the footage. I know its shakey. This is my first time ever using the program. Turned out......well you tell me.

Yup. I give Jonny mega gnar props for how well it handles. I increased compression 2 full turns and reduced rebound 1 and added 1" preload in the springs up front. Thats all I've done since its been home.

Im heading out again next week before going south to Baja. Ill get more vid from the side along the highway if possible.

Here are a few action shots from Ocotillo last weekend. There were a lot of pics taken of a lot of our trucks and video too, but I m waiting to get the media from Ricky the photographer. Some cool shots of my truck. Truck ran awesome. only lost my tranny crossmember bolts and broke my front corner lights out. Great trip. Awesome group that went. Thanks Mike for letting us crash on the property.

Thats Johnys truck. Not Richer. There are quite a few pics on the disc that Ricky has, but I am waiting for it. These are just some I pulled off of myspace. There were some fun trucks out. Nobody was held up from a lack of handling. The s10 was cool.
