looks good now check out how they drive and align and then make a jig out of them if there good them go to a junk yard buy another set and keep doing that till they look perfect because once you start going bigger with your truck your going to want to replace those things they look ugly not trying to be a jerk just trying to tell you from personal experiance

Yea, I accidentally ran it too hot on the first pass. Its not that bad anywhere else. And I will cover it all nicely when I make the radius arms.

I think it looks good. And it doesn't matter, since you're going to plate it anyways.
What do you have planned for it? Any plans on c/o's, or are you gonna stick with the spring and shock setup at the moment?

since im only 18 and jobless... I am going to run a 5.5 coil spring and then on the rad arm, Im going to mount side-by-side shocks going up to a dual shock mount that Ill make. In doing so, Im going to hack off the shock mount part of the coil bucket. This way hopefully I can get as plush as I can.

I reeeeaalllly really suggest just getting coil overs.

A set of FOA's (f-o-a.com) will probably be cheaper then the shocks you plan on getting anyway and it makes things much simpler and cleaner.

do a good job plating them in and they're not half bad! I mean not race status, but for a little prerunner sure. And DONT bother with coils dude, you're gonna end up spending a lot of money and just wanting to upgrade as soon as you get a coil front end on it.

Yes I plan on plating them to the best of my tig abilities

And my welds arnt the best either. The structual welds that I do at school are better because its on a flat plane rather than a 40 lb Ibeam that isnt fastened to a fixture

    They are 6 over

And as far as the C/Os go... If i get an awesome job that I can afford C/Os then yeah Ill run those. But right now I already have the coils and shocks

If you have both, stick with those until you can afford c/o's. But don't spend more money trying to upgrade with shocks and stuff. You'd be wasting money.

Holy cow... those FOA Coilovers are fairly inexpensive, And yeah I bought the shocks from Summit. So I saved a grip

I dont know how to mig... even though its the easiest thing to do. Now maybe I will grab one of my friends to do it that way it goes a thousand miles faster. But I thought tig would just be really pretty.

And yeah I got the pie slice on the inside of the rad arm bolt hole.

Why are you recommending MIG over TIG? If he's got a TIG welder, and wants to use it, let him.
I know some people find TIG easier, and you have far more control with the pedal.
I have MIG because I'm cheap, but i'd use a TIG if I had the money to buy one.

I like the high asthetics on tig. But its slow as sh!t. But if I do it with tig then I can say, "I built them myself"

Tig isn't THAT slow. You're only doing a couple feet of welding, it wont take that much longer then mig. I say TIG it, it'll be worth it.

Okay I kind of under exaggerated lol but really it's not that much compared to a lot of the welding that goes into building a truck.

I dont see why you TIG in this particular application,

It would be a bitch to fit plates front and back to those crooked things with minimal gapage.

Not to mention having to clean the chunk of forged steel well enough to weld cleanly.

If anything, MIG the base plates to the beams and then TIG the additoinal half plates that sit on top.

    Default Backstepping?

Im looking to plate them soon. And Im looking at various plating on beams from the pros and joes, and a lot, if not all, backstep the whole plate anywhere from 3-7 inches. Does that mean its a good idea for me to do it also???

Pretty cool, damn good job. Always stoked to see young kids on here bust out good shit that works and they built it themselves.

My first kingpin beams I did up myself when I was 18-19 too. Then the full tube and plate kingpin beams a year after that.

Well right now, the only thing slowing me down is money. I have Insurance due in September. So hopefully I will finish before I start sprouting grey hairs lol. But just keep an eye out on this thread. Cause hypothetically I may get a job tomorrow, and this whole suspension system may be done next week. I actually was hoping to finish by MDR this weekend. But as you can tell, Thats a no go.
