Default 96 Single Cab Ranger ReFab

Re-fab on my daily driver I bought at the turn of the year. My silverado is off getting a V8 heart transplant so Im working on the ranger.

    When I bought it stats:

96 Single Cab 2.3l 5 spd, fiberglass front and rear, drop bracket front lift, 32x11.50 BFGs, magnaflow muffler, a tubed header.

Since Ive bought it Ive installed a K&N cold air intake, cut the bed cage out and put a tailgate on (since its a DD), new radiator, water pump, heater core, fan and shroud.

Things Im working on right now: Building a new front and rear bumper using 1 3/4 DOM, 3/16 and 1/8 dimple died plate frame horns will hold the bumpers and a new 3/16 thick alum skidplate will go on.

Things I have planned: rear leafs with some king resi shocks and 4.56 gears for the rear end.

    pics to come

What v8 are you putting in your chevy? Is this the same ranger you broke the coil spring on? Looking forward to the build

here is the truck when bought it. it had a shitty bumper and bedcage, a flat tire with a nail in it and a bent rim.

found out the passenger side motor mount was broken, it was new years day, so i fixed it

here is the bedcage i unbolted and cut out, it was half bolt on and half welded on, WAFJ. oh and it was FULL of water.

upon removing the spair tire the spinner or spanner or whatever you want to call it broke off!

and when i looked over the truck i found this for the trans mount!

cut it off to build a new one

    good welds and penetration yes?

    original front bumper:

cut it off, check out the notch gaps!

a week ago new construstion on the front bumper began! kind of a small after work project.

    more to come

-having the stock leafs modified next week by nc spring
-already picked up some bilstein 6100 14" with resi shocks tonight
    -build a shackle

the bumper stuck out too far on this non long travel truck so it didnt look right so i cut the ends and the only difference is i rounded the end cap so there is not a point to the end. i wanted to try this to see how it looks and i definatly like it. ill be building the same bumper on my silvy

would it be a good idea to flip the shackle and or move it back for modified stock leafs? the overload will be pulled and 2 soft leafs will be added just wondering if i should flip it since im not getting deavers.

why would it benefit it in any way? its the same arch, the same stock setup...just two dif springs....i think it would only lower the rear and thats it

well when i had jonathan at NCS rebuild and modify my stock leafs on my silverado i had him rearch the springs to increase the ride height and make them work with the 2 inch longer GMR shackle. he took out the overload and put in 2 softer leafs and gave the pack more preload. im almost set on doing the same thing again just wanted to get info from people that have flipped the shackle on their rangers before.

shhhhhhhh nooo...4 link for the ranger...with drop down bracket lift for the front jk!

the silverado had to be completely rewired so the 05 motor would work with the trans and the rest of the electronics, it still hasn't turned over.

    Thanksgiving weekend work

Started building what I have been drawing up for a couple of weeks (as you can see some of the specs on the table ha ha). Really stoked how its comming along, can't wait to work on it after work this week. Im back to my days in the silverado, taking the truck suspension apart, doing mock up, then racing to put it back together for work on monday ha ha. All i can say is drop brackets have too many bolts. Can someone go out to their ranger and measure the outside to outside width of the frame right at the transmission mount??? My frame is twisted i think and i want to check what other peoples measurements are.

    Plans include:
-Finish up the radius arms and powdercoat
-get some forged beams and loose the drop bracket set up and extend the beams 2" to fill the fenderwells
    -single swing set steering
    -limit straps
    -better shock setup

Make sure just to hit the edges of all your joints to get that millscale off. That way the toes of your welds are in fact completely fused into your base material

this is my first, but i did my homework and researched for a long time, talked to people, and now i get to actually do it. i increased the caster a couple of degrees and pushed the wheelbase forward a little to clear the firewall where its been hitting on bump. dude i want to take off the drop bracket lift and get the stock brackets to hold the beams in, do you or anyone know if anything is cut off when a drop bracket lift is installed or is everything bolt on. reason Im asking is when the drop bracket lift is removed on the beams is there a double sheer to the beam bolt when it came stock? ill post a picture if its difficult. all i know right now is at bump the camber is ridiculous.
