Once the rest of the rear half of the tubing is all added I will just run the bump off the side pretty much in line with that vertical tube. I think that is pretty similar to most others. And basically like this BMS truck.

I got a start on the shock mounts today. Still have alot to do but it took me forever to just get to cutting metal. The pictures are bad, hopefully I will get one side done tomorrow and get better pictures.

Not much of an update but I welded up the pieces that I had on there. Going to try to cut out the rest of the plate work today because my goal is to have the shocks mounted this time next week.

What's your plan for closing in the body where the shocks and mounts are?

It's called Little Sahara if we are talking about the same place, and I'm hoping to take it there when I get done. There's videos on youtube, it looks pretty fun for this area.

Not sure I know exactly what you mean but when the roof goes back on, it will clear everything thats on it now. And from the cross tube that would be under where a rear window would go and down, I will just be doing sheet metal, so the area around the shocks will just get boxed in and welded to the cab.

Looking at the first pic in post 82, your shocks go right through where the rear wall of the cab would be, so you're saying you will put sheet metal in front of the shocks, then bring it back to meet up with the back of the cab and the rear window? If you don't understand, don't worry about it, i'll just have to wait to see what you end up doing.

Oh ok, yeah that's what I meant. The sheet metal will just do what you said and kind of box in the the front of the coilover.

I was having problems holding everything and getting it lined up so I wanted to wait til it was all on and then put the shocks back at the right position and drill them. I'm planning to just start on the outside and go straight through both sides. I'm going to do a 3/4" hole and use 3/4-1/2 tube so I can align the shock in the middle and then weld the spacers. Hope it works out ok.

Nice Build... I am in early stages of an '86 Toyota extended cab build.

Question... I have the stock 22re motor with the stock 4x4 trans and transfer case in right now. I am planning on eventually getting a V-8 with TH400 trans. You mentioned you moved the cab back 3". Was that just to move the firewall back and give room for the V-8 or is there something else.

Also, is there any particular reason for setting the wheelbase to 120" as opposed to the stock 122"? Just wondering.

Moving the cab back will help with moving the engine back some, but I mostly did it for clearing the 35's at bump. The cab could've been clearanced for it but to make other things easier such as bypass mounting location and master cylinders, I went ahead and moved it back. As for the shortened wheelbase, it was a mistake, I had it in my head that 120" was stock so when I mocked up the links, that's where I set it. It would've been easy to change at that point but after reading and seeing other wheelbase numbers, I thought I would just leave it there and see how it worked out. Good luck with your build.

Thanks... I didn't think that with the front track width so wide that would be an issue, but I guess with 35" tires it makes sense.

Arkansas is cool though, my wife has some family in Springdale and Harrison and I have a friend in Jonesboro.

The main problem with clearance is with the wheels turned.

That's cool, I'm in Jonesboro right now, it's where I go to school. Who is the friend?

Vic Mastronardi. I was in the Navy with him and later in a metal band. He was our band manager. I think he works Civil Service or for the Corps of Engineers. I think he's doing stock or modified circle track racing with an old Mustang.

He probably races at Crowley's Ridge Raceway if he's from here, never heard the name though.

Finished the truck tonight, got the wooden bumpstops installed and the solid steel front suspension welded up........well at least it rolls in and out of the shop now. First time it's moved from the jack stands in over a year.

Haha it's hard to see but one of the lower control arms is held on with a long 3/8 extension, not the best for keeping alignment.

Yeah, since I don't have any way to haul it right now, I will have to drive it on the street. There is no inspection here so really anything is street legal.

Not much of an update but the bedsides came in today. Going to have to get new wheels soon because these are so deep that the bedsides need to go in about 6". I'm not even sure new wheels will fix that.

Finished up a little more on the rear of the cage today. Still have to add the lower part and then the bracing. Going to use 1.5" for the bracing.
