alright so after thinking about the cage design, I decided to switch it up and go with the way bulldozer and only1mikey mentioned by going through the side of the dash, I started cutting it away and it was way easier than I had thought, and best of all, my e-brake will work still!

roostthemoon- thanks for your constructive criticism?? but I know what I am doing as far as bending, cutting, notching welding, I have built my own engine cage, bumper, bedcage and beams and they have held up fine, but I have never made a cage. I just thought i'd give that design a try, but you guys are right, in 5 months ill end up with a badly bruised left knee.

04yzfkid- thanks for the pic, that helped me out alot because I couldnt find any.

Anyways heres what I have so far, I'll prob make a build thread soon and show you guys the rest of my truck/cage.

just something i been looking into getting ..and id like to keep all the stock interior on the truck since i drive it every day

Mini's cage seemed fine for a weekend toy.

Note: I believe it was also rolled at like 15-20 mph.

It obviously did it's job on the slow roll and I'm willing to bet it would have saved people lives in little higher speed roll also.

Pre-Fab roll cages are never a good idea unless its just for show...
I would not want to trust my life with something so generic and general.

If you are thinking of caging your truck, it will have to be a custom job. Shops will charge you a great deal of cash for these. You have to remember that you are paying for the materials, the time involved, and the persons knowledge. You may be able to find some garage fabbers in your area that do great work and and save you some money rather than paying a shop.

An extended cab truck does change the design of the cage slightly, but for the most part, the concept of caging trucks is most dependant on the application the cage is needed for...

There are plenty of older threads here and on other sites that can definitely give you some basics about cages and caging your truck!

Pipe is for plumbing. There are usually a few bends that are needed, but after that it's all fill with straight pieces.

here is what i thought of.. where the pipe is bent for the inside of the front doors by the hinge... if you ran a stright pipe up and had it knoched out and then just put a small pipe acost the top of it and then knock out some on the other pipe that goes at a 45* or what ever.... like this

sorry the drawing isnt 100% good... but i hope it works...

oh i should explain the colors that i used...

the orange are he bars that you would see... i drew it at a prospective... the black lines are the outer cage and the pink are the ones you wouldnt see... (hidden) then on the joint the black lines are the pipes and the pink is the one pipe turned so you would be able to look down it and the orange is the weld...

The first pic you posted is how my truck is, nothing wrong with that. All your orange fill pieces are overkill. The problem with using all straight tube is getting it to fit tightly in your cab. Bends here and there are pretty tough to eliminate if you want a nice cage.

    I have a feeling you don't have a bender?

Even though bent TUBE is weaker than just a miter joint, when built properly it won't matter

^^ never built a cage before or anything of the such but i would imagine a few hundred feet or more depending on the truck and its uses. theres no standard number of feet for something like that

searched really didnt nice any info that i was wanting other then in the buggy section which was kinda useless since im not building a bug. Building a tacoma. Daily driver now hopefully it wont be in a year. Planning to do a roll cage soon. when i was getting quotes from people/shops and asking some buddys questions alot of people said 1.75" tubing. I will agree over 1.5" then talking to a buddy at BAP. He said do 2" main tubes and 1.75 everywhere else. I know cage rules are changing in all racing organizations. I don't plan to race right now but who knows maybe once i get it caged my mind will change. what size tubing do you recommend?

For a ranger or toyota I'd do 1.75" for the mains. Do 2" if you don't want any worrying.

Just buy a SCORE rulebook and see what you can get away with. make sure its the 2010 version, i guess they just updated it, so some of the rules might have changed on cage thickness/diameter

Can somebody post some pics of cage to frame mounts on 94 or similar year yotas? The pics in the front of this thread aren't up anymore. I'm looking for ideas.
