It's probably just that my welding looks like shit in general lol. Some are look good, some don't. It's been a learning process which is why I started on the bed cage first.

This is the only pic I have that shows the welding. All I've been taking pics with is my blackberry so that's part of the problem.

Decided to start on the core support today. Radiator mounts will have the radiator sitting an inch or so higher then it is in the pics.

how do you like the 6" deavers? ive heard they have coil bind issues when doin high speed stuff. im runnin 4" progressive rate wild horses coils, and im wondering if i should make the switch to deavers or try what i have..

I don't have too much "high speed" experiance with them. I've been in the dunes with them 3 or 4 times but I've always had shit shocks and never had bump stops so I was afraid to go too crazy with it. Never really jumped or anything. The do make a lot of noise as they rub the frame when compressing during higher speed runs. I had to put an extra strap on the top mount to stop them from bowing out and hitting the tire when compressed. The front springs are really nice on slow speed trails/rocks. The rears are a bit stiff. Once I get this build "done" I'll be able to put them more to the test.

yeah ive been debating on buying new coils, running mine, havin custom ones made, or coilovers. mines a DD so i dont get the major downtime. ive followed your build though, looks amazing. very jealous, hope to make my 67 a similar multi capable off road rig..

I'd like to change to coilovers eventually but it's not in the funds yet. What I have works so I'm just gonna keep running it. If your building up your truck now, or when you start, you should post up a build thread.

Lol Thanks guys, but I've been a lurker on here for a long time and most of my bedcage is just stolen ideas from other trucks I like on here. Mostly from FasterNU's 2nd build -

A buddy used their harness for wiring his 78 F250 and said it was way nicer than the Painless harness he installed on another truck. Looking over everything in the box it does look very nice. Plus I thought it was cool to support a Wisconsin business.

As for updates on the truck, I haven't gotten too much done.

    UPDATE:

I got some Vector's so I can jump like the General Lee

Other than that I haven't done dick to my truck this summer. These damn house has been taking up all my time. I hope to get some work done later this week. I got some stock exhaust manifolds that I'm hopefully going to put back on. Without the fender exit headers I should be able to drop the truck down around 2in with out any tire clearance issues. I'll ditch the factory blocks in the rear and raise the coil buckets in front. I should be able to get a little more wheel travel in front since my d-shaft droop was what was limiting me.

I picked up a cheap set of lowering shackles. I really should have done this back when I was cycling the springs and making the shock mounts, but oh well. I threw them on loose just to see how everything sits. I'm thinking it's probably close to as good as it's gonna get right now but would appreciate anybody's thoughts on it.

Ride height. With the empty fuel cell, empty tool box, spare tire, and a 200lb dude on the back it didn't really change.

Full droop. Shackle contacting hanger, springs are separating, and shocks are just about full extension. I'd be strapping it up a little.

So what do you guys think? Is it pretty much as good as it can be with this cheap shackle or should i move the hanger back some?

I would fllip the hanger and try moving it forward a little.. but then again, what the hell do I know? lol. It's a good looking truck dude. If you strap it a little before then, I'd say you'd be good.

Thanks. I have done some work to the truck, but nothing picture worthy yet. Just adding gussets and finishing welding on the bedcage in preperation for paint. And unfortunately I've had to spend a lot of my little free time working on my daily driver and getting it ready for the plowing season.

I hosed it down with wd-40 a couple times... that's about it. Too busy with other stuff right now; house, kid, etc. We have been DEAD at work. Blew the rearend out of my plow truck mid-dec and rushed to fix that. Good thing too since we have gotten practically NO SNOW! I hope to start working on it at least once a week soon. I'll be sure to post updates when I actually weld something new onto it!

Not a huge update, but I brought the truck home. I wasn't planning on bringing it home until all the welding and fab work was done, but I can't afford rent for it anymore. Hopefully I can save some money now and buy my own welder this summer and finish it up. Once the weather is a little warmer I will be getting the backhalf painted up.
