I will say your truck is badass and seems to work great (only seen videos never seen it in person) but the ride height is not my style. I prefer trucks that tend to sit low yet still retain a good amount of up travel. It takes more creativity to build a low, great working truck but it is possible. Look at Margaret (or any S.I./Plank/Newline/Kibbitek truck), The Grasshopper, Squishy, etc etc. Thy all have fairly low ride heights and work well. But I also understand some people like their trucks to sit a bit higher then Most and it's only an aesthetics thing for the most part.. Either way I wouldn't complain if your truck was in my garage...

He only has 2.5 bypasses so he needs all the help he can get so I understand the high ride height and as long as he isn't rolling like that, Dgaf.

I will have to wholeheartedly agree. "El Rangito" can be accredited with the birth of megahucking, taking a street legal prerunner to an MDR race and passing class 8 trucks down barstow main, and then splittin the rows at Comp hill in glamis the next weekend.

I'm still trying to convince Dan to paint the toyota the same as the ranger...i think it's time to bring it back!

I'll give you that Mcflurry. Obviously you have a good amount of cash into your beast, because it races alot and I know that shit adds up big time with prep, upgrades and repairs. But your truck is stupid simple, and the only wazzo thing about is the big LS motor. I always thought Rays truck was nice and sounded mean, but it could never stay running long enough to do anything really cool. Reliability and mileage to me are some of the most important factors. Whats cool about a wazzo truck that only hits the dirt 5 times an year and breaks every time? If I sound like a jerk, remember....I drive a toyota lol!

Where are these trucks? I'm curious to see some of their results from races

I'm not trying to start anything, seriously curious what trucks you're talking about and how they perform. I don't recall any of them currently kicking ass at races? Do they even race them? Or are they just prerunners?

I've heard many a stories of him hopping on a race course and catching/passing TT's in the rough.

That's just the way Gary drives. Flat out all the time. You should see how he throws Squishy around. Comes back missing mirrors and literally square feet of paint off the cab.

Oh well. I guess that's motivation to finish school and start on Margaret's twin sister.

Plank mor or less invented the high end bolt on kit, he and John at Autofab were the first two to ever offer anything more than a lift kit, that by itself is hugely significant. Margret is the best known of the prerunners, but is one of a surprising number of "twins" that Plank built, and after he died SI and Newline took over, which turned into Advanced, Jackson Rally etc. The significance of Margret being the besh known of the Plank/SI/Newline trucks is that she's "genesis" one the very first luxury prerunners that was built largely with parts available "off the shelf". It's common now to take a truck, install a Blitz kit and links, add a cage and there you go, you've got a luxury prerunner, back then it was unheard of. Most kids today would scoff at a Plank truck, they weren't very wide, they didn't get tons of travel, they usually had a single coil-over up front and they weren't "in your face" with louvers and TT bed-sides, but the work amazing.

Not only could Margret rape almost any 1400 truck today, but if Plank were still alive he'd make most of the well respected fabricators out there look like hacks and he'd have elevated the industry to a level so far beyond where it's at now, hell it's been fairly stagnant since the invention of high end bolt ons.

Thanks ! yep it rides high for sure. We lowered and resprung/valved it for Lucas Oil Regionals this year so it sits a good 6" lower. Still higher than most though! does not bother me and really do like the high front end approach angle. Only stuffed it once at the MINT

Thanks! I was not really factoring in prep , just the intiail cost of the truck and motor swap. I really just got lucky with how cheap I bought the truck. Even that prep is not too bad. We have raced 8 Lucas Oil Regionals this year and the last full prep was RATR last year. I did do the ball joints before Glamis which is Carquest about $120. That and oil changes for all of 2011. It does need a full prep before its next desert race though

margret belongs to the wilson family. dont have any pict. but to look at it from afar, it dont look like much but get close and it is a very well put together baja proven truck with a big power house V8.

    plank built big bird also.
    charlie brown goes to baja.

There are pictures of Margaret further back in the thread (page 1). There is also a link to Squishy in here as well (page 2).

And strangely enough Margaret (a Ranger) has a wider track width and a longer wheelbase than Squishy (a F-150 cabbed truck).

There's something to be said for people smart enough to keep a simple 6cyl under the hood. Both those trucks were well thought out and plenty lights, they didn't need v8s. Sure a V8 would have been sweet, but the expense to do it right keeps a lot of people out of the desert because they get in over their heads, not saying that would have happened to either of the Hamptons, but it does happen to a lot of people. I know of a few game changing Rangers that are sitting in their owner's garage right now because of the wazzoo V8, would have been in dirt months ago with a 6-banger.

That said, Justin's single-cab has always been one of my favorites, simple and reliable, I'd have slapped a windshield in it, added AC and gone to Mexico because racing is for bitches, but that truck was a damn good race truck.

Same here. First time i saw it was in Barstow at an MDR race. Thats when it was blue and my favorite. It had to have been like my 2nd or 3rd time being at a race.

rharleyrider, what color green is that on your old ranger? Do you remember the paint code? Bad ass ranger though, always one of my favorites.
