Thread: Any Suzuki Samurai's in Offroad Racing?

I remember waaaaaay back when there was one that ran the baja 1000. Anyone have any pictures of that one? Has anyone else attemped to desert race a samurai? i know the short wheel base makes it shitty but was just curious if anyone has done it....

Yeah somebody used to race a Samarai,I've even got a picture somewhere. I can remember looking at that thing and you could just feel the PAIN !!! After me and a few buddy's checked it out the conversation went something like this. Would you rather spend the weekend strapped in that ? Or spend the weekend in Jail ? We all picked jail.

I used to have a picture of the Baja 1000 samurai, It was driven by Xavier Reyes and I think he DNF'd the 500 in 01 and was the last finisher of the 1000 in 02 or something similar to that. I couldn't find the picture though. I think it was yellow and white.

Legend has it that Dan Vance raced at Samarai in the 02 MDR Lucerne 400 under an alias of Tut Cote. Look it up, you'll find the driver was wearing the trademark open face simpson helmet and flamin orange oakleys.

I've only had a chance to dig thru a couple boxes of pic's.The one I'm thinking of was from the 1999 or 2000 Baja 500 or the Baja 2000. From what I remember it was basically VERY stock with a cage and some safety equipment,rattle can paint.Did'nt even have cool wheel's and tires and no resevoir's on the Gabriel shock's. I'll keep digging. But if your expecting something even kinda cool this Samarai was'nt it.

I think they're called Rhino's now.

any clue what class a stock samurai (or slightly modified if aloud) would race in?? hopefully not jeep speed... ran a few miles of the parker 425 this weekend in a samurai after the race, it was brutal! the ground clearnece was the biggest issue since the ruts where so deep the third member was constantly scrapping the ground on 27" tires, no lift.

there was a linked one at the M.O.R.E new years race this year in barstow it looked insane! i should have snaped a pic of it.
