    Default best oil

I just bought my first truck. 1993 for ranger 4.0 5 speed. It runs fine but im not sure about the last time the motor oil was changed. It has 137,xxx miles and is going to be my daily driver when i get my license. I was wondering not the absolute best, but a good oil that is not too expansive but will take good care of my motor. Also what oil filter do you guys suggest?

I ran Mobil 1 synthetic in my 97 ranger with a 4.0L some people think its a waste but why does GM recommend it in Z06 Corvettes.. and ran a fram filter

LOL you spent all that money on Mobil1 and ran a cheapass fram filter...

just run a good conventional oil, or synthetic blend if you can afford it. Castrol or Valvoline. But spend a little extra on a good filter. You can get Wix filters at O'reilly's, or get NAPA Gold filters, they're made by Wix...

change it every 3,000-5,000 miles. And yes, change the oil only after the engine is up to operating temperature. I usually drive my vehicles around for about 15 minutes to make sure the engine is fully warmed up..

for the love of all things that exist and require lubrication, DO NOT run Lucas in anything you own. Absolute junk...

Sometimes you just can't afford a Mobil or a k&n filter..

running it in a pro2 and going through differentials every race instead of every 6 races. Also seeing transmission fluid temps go up about 50*F compared to what was being run before (Amsoil). Needless to say, the unused Lucas product got thrown away..

Rangers don't give a flying fuck as to what oil you put in the. Only reason I put anything other than basic conventional in was because they were out of the conventional. Never had an issue. If synthetic makes you sleep better at night do it, but in these engines I'd say conventional is better

I have run pretty much every weight of conventional and the motor dgafed. Ran 30w in the winter this year to slow down the oil leak lol.

motorcraft is a good oil filter, not so sure about the oil... but yeah, like someone else said: why would you spend $10/qt on mobil 1 to cheapen out with a $5 oil filter? and for my ranger, the cheapest name brand 10W30 (Castrol/Valvoline) oil and a motorcraft oil filter is what I run... my F250 gets 6 qts of Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and Mobil 1 oil filter, haha... the motorcycle, however, gets 4 qts of Amsoil 10W40 and a K&N oil filter...

Motorcraft oil is good oil. It's a synthetic blend. My dad uses it in the cop cars at City of NLV. they rarely have engine problems, and cops aren't exactly easy on cars...lol
