Date Change for Sept 18, 2010 DRIVE Race Approved
The FiberwerX / WCT Townsel Memorial Race, which is the third round of the 2010 Competitive Metals Championship series, presented by DRIVE Off Road Racing, is being moved from September 18th to October 23rd.
The key factor in making this important decision is to make sure that the series does what is required by the BLM and meeting all new guidelines. DRIVE has been informed by the BLM that there will be new stipulations attached to their permits. What isn't known at this time is what the new stipulations are, and exactly when they will be released. With less then four weeks until the originally scheduled race date, DRIVE does not feel that they will have time to meet these additional requirements to their own standards.
"Now is not the time to press forward without planning. DRIVE has already met and discussed the possible new stipulations. The group as a whole decided that without knowing the specifics, and not having time to develop policies and procedures to meet the new guidelines it would be a bad idea to not push the date back. I will say that racing has more than likely become a little more expensive for everyone. Once we have the new stipulations we will sit down and figure out what the new cost of putting on races in California will be." - Doug Wasser, President DRIVE Off Road Racing.
All entries received at this point for the September date have been held. Checks have not been deposited and credit cards have not been processed. DRIVE will contact all people that have pre-paid shortly. They will not process anything without speaking to the entrant first.
"We are all in a fish bowl at this point. We have people looking in at us that would have never even blinked an eye when someone said "off road'. Now they will not only blink an eye, but might even give you a dirty look. Right now the most important thing we can do is make sure we understand the new rules and meet them with no questions or doubt. Everything has to be flawless. I truely hope that the racing community understands the severity of what is going on right now and also understands that we are making the best decisions possible for the future of off road racing, not just the next race." - Doug Wasser
DRIVE will be releasing more details about the October 23 race in the next few weeks after they get final details from the BLM.
