Left OC Tuesday morning, hung out in SD for a while til my buddy got off work, got to Ensenada around 10 at night. Wednesday I avoided the chaos of tech. Thursday we headed to Ojos, watched everything from the TTs to the 12s go through then went to KM 77 for the Baja Pit, dumped gas and checked the truck over. Went to Valley T, dumped gas again. Drove down to Puertocitos, watched the truck go through the checkpoint. Went from there to Cocos on course, had my dustlight on and pulled over as soon as we saw lights so we wouldnt dust any one out. Went from Cocos to the BOLA turnout, waited on the radio til they cleared the pit enjoying a nice fire. North of Loreto at the silt bed deviation we dumped gas and changed a tire. 10 mins later the truck rolled. Got it over, kept going. At the dump road we swapped out an upper uniball that was toast. Once we made it through the Hills of Doom south of Loreto we dumped gas at Insurgentes and then just pulled into the turnouts to keep in radio contact if they needed anything since Baja Pits was taking care of our fuel. Around 950, we ended up swapping out the other sides upper uniball and welding in a new lower, the cup was coming out of the lower arm. Going to La Paz we heard that they were stuck in silt, paid a dude 20$ to get them out, and in doing so they stole their spare. So flipped a bitch and hopped on course again to the Baja Pit they were stuck at, gave them a spare and a new ratchet strap. Went to La Paz and got to watch the truck cross the line. First time Ive ever seen a truck I was helping cross the line in 7 years of going to the 1000, not because they didnt finish but most of the time we were already in our hotels sleeping or back on the highway coming into town. Slept in our trucks at the finish, drove from La Paz to Mulege, jumped in the Sea of Cortez at sunset for a "shower", had dinner at Rice and Beans, slept in a hotel at Guerrero Negro. Sunday drove from there all the way home. During the race I slept for 20 minutes and that was it. Best adrenaline rush youll ever get.
