    Default Baja 1000

well now the primm is over Im hoping to see a Map posted soon for the 1K

Im going to Mexico to scout around on the 22nd of Sept trying to find a good spot and a hotel near by no motorhome this time

Thinking maybe San Felipe might be a good area

Anyway if you guys have any ideas for a spectator other than Ensanada

chime in Im kind of a rookie for the Mexico races so just trying to have some fun.

Tonelli Racing will be down there, not sure if we're going to race it or just spectating (probably SF and Ens), we're in the points hunt but its a looong race for chasing, that equals a LOT more money to do the race. There are a lot of chase access roads around SF with a short graded dirt road out to say areas like zoo road. You dont HAVE to be in that crazy mess, but you could go a few miles up each side of the course and there is some good action through there. Huge whoops, high speeds.

La Fonda is the shit! I've been there 50+ times. It's pretty low key though, Sunday brunch is insane.

I am staying at a buddies place in Rio Hardy. Spectating somewhere in the SF area.

la Fonda is only like 30 min north of ens. yes, great surf and even better sunday brunch. i think they have little trailers you can rent to stay in, i think they are like $65/ night they are stationary there (they dont move). seems to be a safe place as long as everything you bring is locked inside.
we are pre running for a pro truck team last week of oct. i cant wait!

Tech is Wednesday, race starts Thursday, awards Saturday. Probably heading down Tuesday afternoon/night after class. Im chasing the full pull to La Paz, gonna put a GoPro on Chase 1 for a different kind of in car that should be pretty different and cool. I might bring my KTM and prerun a section the day of tech if I hop in the truck during the race.

I'm excited for this years 1000. I have been sent to somewhere in between from Cocos Corner to Gonzaga Bay on a check point that's gonna be out there. I will be going through San Felipe. Has anybody gone through there? I don't really know what to expect. I know its an unpaved road more like dirt or fire road kind of thing, at least that's what i've heard. What should I look out for? Where is the check point usually located?

Richer, my buddy Bobby from Culhane, My Pop and I are taking my diesel down to pit for a 16 car for sure and a class 1 (if they make it $). Probably head to Ens Wed for Tech/Paris and leave early towards SF and the junction Race morning. May go further south but probably just staying in SF through the weekend i think. well if you're coming from AZ i would highly recommend skipping that start because you'll be over it pretty quick, and head to San Felipe. Would you rather watch truck going through the street in which they're not really meant for? OR watching at Zoo road with TT's going 90mph over 3ft deep whoops? It would be easier and a better view if you just went to San Felipe. OOOORRRRR, even a better idea, go to ensenada, head to san felipe during the race, then head up home through mexicali. Depends on how much you really want to travel though baja and how much money you have for gasolina

so Zoo Road in San Felipe is the place to be?? thats exactly what i was looking for, advice on a good spot. i just wanted to go on the first day so i could check out the trucks up close

will the TT's hit Zoo road the first day or 2nd day or is it more towards the end? i wanna make sure i catch them at the right time

oh, well, good question. I believe they're giving the bikes like a 6hr head start, so TT's take off around noon. Most of the vehicles should be by SF by nightfall, they have to go around the grade down Rumorosa i believe, then they'll come down through SF. For Sure they'll be there on the first day, i mean the second day ends basically 1000 miles away from that so. You could even go up the road a little ways and catch them at Borrego, good action going through there. But i'd stay on the Sea of Cortez side, Ensenada isn't the BEST place in northern baja to watch, sure you could look at the trucks, but i'd rather see them in action. Zoo road has a VERY easy graded dirt road chase access.

Just drive down to San Felipe and follow a chase truck and offer to lend a hand if you can park with them. SF is right around MM 185 I think, figure its a fast course so 55ish average, the leaders should be there with a few hours of daylight left.
