and where the contingency will be?
You may be confusing this with the Laughlin Desert Challenge. It's held in January.

I remember when guys raced each other with V6's and won with driving skill and prep
Everyone has to have a bigger faster v8 then the next guy. The plus side to all this, is that pretty soon all you guys will be soo fast, you will just be racing TT and the class will once again be a "sportsman street legal" budget class haha.

Yeah I hope it goes back to budget motors so our 3.4L tacoma can be competative. Even when I had my 355 I had $1800 into the motor including carb and everything. Just got a new engine now and spent a whole $350.00 on that. We shall see how that goes.
even my new ls6 only has about 4 grand into it.. and were thinkin it's in the high 400's (at the crank), haven't gotten it dyno'd yet but, no wazoo motor for me![]()
if my truck was done, it wouldn't be mine anymore.

4 Grand is how much I have into my entire DRIVETRAIN. Motor/trans/rearend/rad/ everything. That's big money to most people, I know I couldn't spend that cash on just an engine.

Hahaha 4k LS motors that make almost 500 HP at the crank are no longer wazoo motors? I didnt know it was standard equipment now a days. Anyone wanna trade my Ranger for a 1600 car?
$4,000 as in I bought the motor for $2200, and had it overhauled, $1,200 all new STOCK parts in the lower end, got upgraded valve springs, all ARP bolts, and a very mild 224/228 cam. then I bought a th400 (first one) for $900, FF for $3,000, about $500 in driveshafts, a very nice hook up got me my rad for $350. So that puts me at around $9,000 for an LS in a Ranger, and I finished 8th, on the second day at a race with lots of wazoo trucks (granted it was my first race with a V8 with very little seat time, and second race ever). Guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm just trying to have fun and having more power, is more fun. I'm not going to race an entire season, just a few races a year, and I think that my truck is very mild for the competition that everyone is up against. I hope to have a wazoo truck in good time, but I think that $9,000 into a "sportsman truck" drivetrain isn't extreme. But I'm also new to all of this.
if my truck was done, it wouldn't be mine anymore.

Oh Im not knocking you or anyone else with a built V8 etc at all, its just that people used to race with stock motors with 150k miles and that was the standard. Now V8 mini trucks and 500 HP fullsizes are all standard equipment and the nature of the game. Ill be stoked if my motor throws down 275 to the crank haha.
Whos yellow f100 is that 1456? trying to find pics and specs, mainly engine/exhaust thanks.

I don't understand, no one ever wants to change the 1450 rules, but all the sudden big motors are an issue?

There is no way to make a fair motor rule in 1450. The trucks are too diverse for that. As for the big motors... I don't think they are an issue. I do think they are hurting the class from a budget guys outlook though.
The most expensive component of my drivetrain is my FF rear end. As for my motor and trans, they were cheap. The motor I picked up out of the RDC classifieds for 1500 bucks three years ago and have not done a thing to it. Only recently changed the oil for the first time after 8K race miles(no joke). I also run a stock Toyota XRunner 6 speed trans, so nothing fancy there. Anaheim Gear is rebuilding my transmissions for a racers discount that is cheap as I can find. Recently I have been spending more on fuel for the truck than the cost of maintaining the transmissions. I go threw a clutch every two races but that is normal for stock parts. So in the end I don't think I can do it any cheaper. Bang for the buck I don't think it can be beat either, as the truck has finished on the podium in all but one race it finished for the last three years.
To Me, that stock V6 is the core of a 1450 truck. It puts a smile on my face to think that some racers had to put 500 hp motors in their trucks to beat my little stock $1500 V6, but that is racing. I don't knock them for it, but rather just say it like it is. Good Times!!

The only way to level the playing field is a claimer rule on the engine. $2500 buys any top three motor.

Im running a stock 4.0 V6 with about 150k miles on it and a 5 speed, And I plan on keeping it that way. Only up grade it has is air intake and new spark plugs haha! I like Dans out look on his set up, It motivates me to keep it simple and proves that you dont need a wazzo V8 to win a race.
