Not sure if I'll be camping out there at all, may just make it a day trip, but if I do I might take you up on that. If I can find you. I don't know my way around Johnson Valley very well.

We're probably just taking my HD on Sunday for the everymans's challenge then head back on Thursday towing the XJ and stay 1 or 2 nights for the main event. Can't wait to see RG try and keep a KOH rig in 1 piece! Should be epic!

Thinking about hooking an internal radio up in the ranger from pci. Internal cons between driver and co driver and will it be able to have out of truck communications?

the ones between driver/cordriver are intercoms. a race radio can then be plugged into the intercom to talk to others. big $$ for all that though.

Today was the Everyman Challenge, which ended up being a total shitstorm to try to spectate. I still don't quite know what happened, but there was speculation of the BLM changing the course from what was on the map, then talk of the course coming up Chocolate Thunder, and then it turned into the course going down Chocolate Thunder instead, and then they avoided all rock trails completely. Everybody was just hearing updates from other people who didn't know what was going on. So we ended up just getting to see a few vehicles do a hill climb and that's it. Kind of bullshit in my opinion to charge $20/person to get out there and then making it next to impossible to watch the race.

But later in the afternoon all the real race buggies began practicing on Chocolate Thunder which turned out to be awesome to watch. Saw some shocks break, a buggy tip over and had to winch out, Robby Gordon in the TTB Torchmate buggy, and a lot of other action was going on. Also a lot of really cool trucks and buggies out there just to look at and watch play around.

Got some pics and vids that maybe I'll put up later.

Actually they had a sign as to "What your $20 goes towards" with a breakdown of where all those $1000's of dollars went to...$7000 for fencing, plus security, jumbotron, etc, etc, etc. You could have gotten in without one, but the Rangers started coming around and asking to see the wrist bands (orange) on everybody.

But will have to agree with mounty71, it was ridiculous to watch the amateurs go at it, firstly because you didn't know where in the hell to go and secondly because it was honestly boring as shit watching them creep along

I know what the $20 is for. I saw the signs. I have no problem paying for events like these, but if the race wasn't happening, I wouldn't have been out there yesterday. That's all I'm saying.

That's some narrow minded thinking right there. How about, if you won't want to pay the $20 for a wist band, then don't watch the race.

Going to the desert is and should always be 100% free, unless the BLM provide amendments like a brick shit house etc.

Might take you up on that, supposedly have a couple good friend out there with ProArmor, so if I can find them I'll camp there, but otherwise I'll shoot that way. I'll be in my little stock 4runner so any course action would be slow haha.

im not saying you should pay everytime yo go to the desert, its an organized event and if we want to continue to have these then help out and dont argue if theres a fee to go to the desert for a week. i know for a fact everyone that works these events volunteer, no pay so its not like the $20 is going in my pocket.

i'll be out there wednesday and i'll be working at the entrance hope no one takes any offense.

Andrew. No handheld. Just radio in my truck. Might get one from Ben or Dez. So should have both. Not sure if I leave wed or early thursday afternoon. Mikey, I would love to camp overthere and take the MDR track over, but my truck is allready at the hammers.

I have a house on the other side of the highway. Anyway my grandpa was out there this past weekend. The JV community center does breakfast every Saturday and dinner the first Saturday of the month. At the dinner some lady( not exactly sure who she was) spoke up during the meeting after dinner and said blm charged 40,000 for the event. Iguess last year it was under 5,000. Don't quote me on these numbers but holy hell thats a lot of money. And how many ranger will be out there? 2-5?
