Default Jackson Rally Open Class STI Build

Thought I would start a thread about a horse of a different color. A Rally Car. I built this car for my brother in 5 weeks. Then we raced it at our first rally race with no test time. We came 3rd in class and 6th overall....lots of pics

hey jackson what TIG machine are you using? Are those welds pulsed (foot or electronic) or is that full kill on the pedal?

Amazing work coming out of your shop! Congrats to the owner.

Holly Tig Batman!! That STI is the best looking rally I have ever seen. My buddy Tommy has a STI and has been thinking of caging it. Going to be showing him this.

He took me for a ride yesterday and was doing 50+ on a clover leaf on-ramp system from the 67 to the 8. Man, Love these cars.

Awestuck by those welds and the build keep it up!!!

Yeah if I had any sweet skills I would be able to post some incar, but I don't know how to do that...I may try. As far as other action shots we are waiting for proofs from event photographers. The spectator viewing area was real, real small.

Its a Miller Syncrowave 250DX, and foot pulsed. All tubing is .095 and I weld everything with the machine at 150 and let my foot do the rest.

BTW my brother (driver) and friend (co-driver) are both rookies, neither one has ever entered in a race, and the car had zero test time. Its cool watching the vid cause you can see where they make mistakes with pace notes etc and can now learn from it.

what made you leave the offroad(trucks) side of things? i met you at NL, i worked with shane for a while, met matt with the TT up in big bear... then you kinda dissappeared.

your work hasnt changed, just wondering why you gotta offroad, im sure with the right clientel, you could make just as good money as the top shops right?

The pics were a little out of order but it is shown further down near where they are spot welding the body joints up, they did it similar to a truck just dropping it out the bottom.

BTW does anyone else hate the fact that cox doesnt show WRC or have the outdoor network so that we can see races on tv ?

Well I decided to make the cross over when I got my Subaru and wanted to drive it like a truck....so I started building little things for it out of necessity, and I kinda fell into it. I still do off-road stuff but the rally thing is really taking over. I have a line of products for the Subarus that I'm just starting to sell across the US and Canada.

Motor is mostly stock, but is also 300hp/300tq stock which puts you at about 250~260 at the wheels. The crappy part is we have to run a turbo inlet restrictor, 34mm. So we played with a couple things during a 4hr dyno session and ended up with 315lbft torque at the wheels but only 230hp, but the freaking thing is a rocket. It works out well with 6 gears to choose from.

Coilovers are from Argentina, brand is RSSP. 55mm insert, high and low speed compression adj, rebound adj and internal adjustable hydraulic bumpstops. Front are piggyback res. and rear are remote. And they cost as much as a coilover and bypass on each corner....
