the foas on the fron of my truck have run and performed flawlessly since they date of purchase. the front of my truck handles some rough stuff and it soakes it up so good. with med to heavy valving with 350 over 500 spring rate i love them! thanks foa, plus when i needed parts they took care of me
I used to work for metal super markets and we sold a lot of hydraulic tubing that was honed on the inside wall and I alwase thought I could build some bad ass shock out of this.....dreams are becoming a reality looks like I'm gonna have to clean of grandpas lathe and mill I may have to try my hand at this....
So the idea of the solid piston is to force all the oil through the bypass tubes?
FOA's on my truck work great they soak up every thing I can throw at them. Btw

solid piston is not a good idea. you have to make a choice between allowing the shock to flow enough at high shaft speed so it isn't harsh, which will cause it to not have enough slow shaft speed control and the car will be loppy. or the other way around, it'll have low speed control, but it will have a max shaft speed, you will reach it, and it will hurt...

Wish me luck...
Going to try an experiment, making 3.0 air shocks, will be adding a water jacket to keep temps consistent. Im thinking these will work better with a very large reservoir to keep the pressure jump from droop to bump less drastic, and maybe cantilevered so there's less overall shaft movement which will also decrease the pressure spike. Time to do some math, I suppose.
But I basically got a shaft, seal head and wiper seal ass'y for $65.
This is more of an experiment than anything else.

There was a guy walking out of the swap meet on SATURDAY at like noon with FOUR 3.0 Kuster 5 tube bypasses for $500.
Made me think of this thread.

That's a good buy. I got 4 last year for $600.00 but ended up selling 2 of them there for $600 so I got a pair for free.
Wasn't there a rock buggy build on here that was using them for mockup? Were they stolen before or after that?
