So I was asked to install seat heaters in my father in laws Manx and thought I would do a quick "How To" for anyone that was going to do this. We are installing them in a set of standard width PRP seats and I believe the other makes would be similar.
1) Buy your seat heaters. I got mine from a random company online. One thing to make sure is that the heater can be cut in the middle and still work properly. You need to cut a slit where your 5th anchor belt will go (Up between your legs).
2) Remove your seats from the vehicle
3) Take the seat cover off. I looked on the bottom and found a rope/string tied keeping the seat cover on and tight around the bottom. I simply un did the knot and loosened the string. I duct taped some wire to the string so I did not need to fish it back through the holes when I pulled it loose.
(See the knot in the upper left)
4) Slide the cover off:
5) Set the heating element on to test and see if any trimming is needed (none needed on ours):
6) Run the wires out the back/side. I had the wires running out the left side(When sitting in it) of this seat because it is the passenger seat :
I had to cut a little hole in the plastic liner. I was a little worried about doing this but then I looked and there were other cuts made with no reinforced stitching from the manufacturer so I no longer worried about it.(This picture is of the side. The tube running up and down would be at your hip and the tube on the bottom is the very bottom tube that runs along your floor):
7) Mark where the 5th belt would go with a marker:
8) Cut it with a razor blade:
9) Peel off the backing of the double sided tape the elements come with and stick them in place for good.
10) Put the cover back on and tie the bottom string tight:
11) Then test the heating element(We actually tested before putting the covers back on as well):
12) Install seats in vehicle
13) Run the wires and hook them up according to the instructions. Pretty simple
14) Drill hole and mount the rocker switch. Ours was a weird hole size 20mm so we just did 3/4 and filed it out a little. There will be a second switch between the gauges on the left for the driver’s seat. Ours has low/off/high
15) Enjoy toasty buns while driving/riding.
