I know you guys are going to laugh, but my friend and I spent many late nights trying to put the front suspension in this beast and we did yet.... ya.... i feel soooo good being able to drive it, well for this week at least. Next sunday the truck goes back into the garage for its cage and rear suspension.

oh ya, it has the esb 13" kit, with t100 axles, new fox coilovers with res. yeahhhh!

He got 13'' of travel like posted.

It looks good and the 4wd will hook up really nice into corners in the desert. I like that you kept the 4wd, good call. Keep us posted on the progress with the cage and rear-end.

what are you doing for the rear anyways!?

Finally someone who understands that 4wd isn't just for getting unstuck!

It's not all about wheel travel, its about putting together a SYSTEM that works together to let you position the vehicle right where you want it. 4wd does just that very cheaply for many of us.

I love entering a progressive, controlled 4 wheel drift and pulling around corners without loosing speed or sending the ass way out and scrubbing off speed. When you leave the long straight whoop sections and get into windy, off-camber roads, 4wd is awsome at speed.

Keep that 4wd, and kudos to Mike for building a system that retains 4wd and uses oem parts. Now if only somebody would do that for a ranger...

hell yeah 4wd is where its at! even on my truck, i wanted to keep 4wd very badly but had a problem with not having room for a 3rd member...otherwise it too would be 4wd.

now about the ford 4wd stuff....well start gettin on jerrys ass about it lol. if i was a ford guy id work on it...but ford kits from ESB are still a little ways out.

Long-Travel 4WD IFS is definately worth the extra time/money, but we can't keep our CV's together... At least those T100 CV's are inexpensive.

Anyone with a 4WD Tacoma might be interested in something we're working on. 99-up 4Runners (limited & some SR5's) had a multi-mode transfer-case that lets you choose between 2wd/4wd-Open/4WD-Locked. This is an awesome upgrade for anyone that uses 4-hi on-road, in the snow, etc.

how are the t100 cv's compared to tundra cv's. are they just about the same. Thats been the one thing thats been holding me back from LT.
What exactly is the multi-mode x-fer case anyways. I have 2&4 hi, and 4 low. As for locked (im assuming your talking about the front diff or cv's, and not the electronic rear locker) I have locker set up so it can be locked in both hi gears and 4 low, if that makes any difference

did you end up getting the porche cv's? i was under the impresion that the stock yota cv's bound at 12"....my brothers pulls 14, but needs to have the straps pulled in to 12 in order to run the 4wd w/o binding the cv's.....its a tc not esb, so maybe that is the difference...or maybe its cause he didnt get the porche cv's.

We just finished installing Total Chaos' new coil-over Caddy Kit on an '89 4Runner with stock T100 CV's and it cycles exactly 12" with 4WD. We haven't run it yet though, so I can't comment on the CV strength, but I'm not expecting much. We run 4WD trails in nor-cal with straight-axle trucks and the torque multiplication kills CV's. Our LT Tacoma cycles 13" with 4WD using modified stock Tundra CV's. We've exploded three of them so far and we'll probalby need to have a custom setup made so that we can install an ARB in the front diff. For you guys that are only running 4-HI in the desert though, stock CV's should be fine, because they seem to handle the operating angles OK.

The 4Runner multi-mode transfer-case actually has a selectable center-locking differential (like TRD rear axles). When open, it allows you to run 4WD on-road without binding the drivetrain and when locked, it distributes torque 50/50 front/rear for off-road driving. Prett sweet. It's a push-button transfer-case though (with a lever for 4-LO), so you have to convert over from your standard J-pattern transfer-case in order to make it work.

I am running t100 axles right now, got them super cheap. I’m going to be limiting it with straps to 12". I’m in the garage right now, because I am board, building a front bumper so when I get inside I will post some pics the it.

o ya I forgot, for the rear end we are thinking of just going with some 62" Deavers and some fox’s, because of $ issues.

You just need entended axles. Some people acutally cut, sleeve, and extend stock axles, and don't have any problems. I would have new ones made, but thats just the way I would do it. The extended beams aren't cheapeither, and add axles on top of that, ouchy!

But non ethe less, 4wd in the desert is great and I have a buddy who has an explorer that wants to keep it because of the hooking up through the corners! So whatever you do, try and keep the 4wd as much as possible!

cutting and extending axles dont work man lol. tried this on two trucks back in the day to cut cost and just make sure the 4wd actually WORKED properly, and snapped everyone of them the first trip out, 4 cyl, 6 cyl...didnt matter. problem is that axles have a certain spring tension to them, and when you weld them it takes that away, and they snap. maybe some people have had success because they didnt put it through alot of abuse, or had some odd circumstance that somehow it worked...but in all my testing ive never seen it work (even with billit machined piece tig welded on).

For the $110 each that we spent at Kragen on our rebuilt T100 shafts, how could you go wrong? Now Tacoma/Tundra CV's are another story. Breaking those things gets EXPENSIVE.

i was wondering, do you guys think i can get away with not doing any bends when i make my roll cage? i mean like how i made my bumper? to me thats easyer and cheaper then finding/barrowing a bender from anyone. all i am worried about is if it will be strong enough.
