I just got a 4-runner with a supra motor in it and it doesnt like to idle sometimes and dies when im at a light. The idle speed control valve has been replaced but didnt cure the problem. It is a 1986 4-Runner with a 1987 3.0 non-turbo inline six swap. The motor has about 5,000 miles on it.it runs real good but sometimes does not like to idle nicely.Should I just turn up the idle speed?Kinda like half assing it I guess.Any body know what it could be?Or any body know of a real good Toyota mechanic I could take it to?

is it cold when it has the problem or does it just have the problem at completely random times?? i would turn up idle speed and see if that fixes it.

It could also be your throttle position indicator or your mass airflow sensor. I am not familiar with your motor but those are the two things that cause the same problem on Tacomas, oh and it might be as simple as a dirty air or fuel filter.
