Thread: thinking about buying

last night i found a ranger that i might buy. it has a 4130 cage front to rear and a stock style front suspention, meaning just bent beams custom rad arms dual shocks to a custom shock hoop. it also comes w/ a disc braked 9in. "custom" nationals, glass, a fuel cell and a few other odds and ends. it has a 2.9l moter and i am sure a stock trans. the guy said it has not run in three years but it ran fine when he parked it and it has just over 100k miles. he wants $4000 for everything. is it woth it?

it is a hell of alot farther along than my curent project that is the only reason i am thinking about it.

also comes with a bunch of older fox shocks. not coilover but they still felt pretty smooth and appeared to be about 12"-14" travel

It is always hard to say what a prerunner truck is worth. How beat to hell is it? Do you see a lot of rusting? Has not run in 3 years, that has to tell you there are problems present. How much do you know about trucks? Enough to fix the problems so you arent paying a shop several grand to get it back on the road? Are you looking for this to be a Daily Driver or just a toy in the dirt? Lots of things to think about...

most important question, what year is it?

if it is just going to be a dezert truck, offer him 3. if there is alot of rust i would say no way. try and get some pics to show us. it could be a nice project.
