I'm probably finally going to tear into my steering setup here in about 2 weeks or so. I spoke with Jeff at Howe and am ready budget wise to pull the trigger on his full setup. The Chevy box is definitely the way to go but budget wise I'm sticking with the Ford box. Both him and I are confident it'll be fine for my setup. He even suggested just running mine as it is but I'd really still like to get at least some of the drivers side tie rod bend out of mine by changing it up.

Looks like you've got it going in the right direction for sure! Hoping I can pull off something similar soon!!! Buttoning up my new rear axle install this weekend. Need to figure out a few more things with my shocks and get those pushed aside and then I can focus on the steering while my motor is being built in July/Aug...

Stoked to see such a grassroots style build come together. Keep it up. The amount of knowledge you are gaining from working through this is priceless.

Welding on the knuckles isn’t hard. Just pre-heat and burn it in. I’m local, east end Ventura, and have a 200 amp TIG machine. I use 312 stainless filler to do all my welding on cast steel stuff (knuckles, pitman arms etc). Let me know if you want to bring your stuff over and burn it in with the TIG. Or I can do it for you if you don’t have the ability.
Thank you, and right on I appreciate that, I have been using 7018 and torch heating, which seems to be working decently.. I might take you up on your offer for rear cab holes since I cant weld much under 1/8” thick, if you are interested in a little cash, or beer.

Thanks, you should have no problem getting straight tie rods on yours. I remember seeing your truck when I bought those old 33” BFG tires from you, I think you said you went with 3/8” wall tube for the tie rods. Im going with 1.5” x 0.25” wall DOM and am curious whats stronger, straight 0.25” or bent 3/8”. Next time around I would do what was recommended elsewhere and use emt or something steel with the same or slightly larger OD.
Serious. Straight up barbecue. Cook it then burn it.
lol, my BBQ will only see animal grease, not dirty ‘70s van automotive grease.

FOA 2.5”x14” fully dressed RR Coilover and then FOA 2.5”x16” 3 tube bypass weights.. Bumped and strapped at 17” travel and no bends in any tie rods with about 3/16” toe in at droop and some unmeasurable amount of toe out at bump..soo after crunching numbers should cancel out to no toe change through the travel.. Working on final assembly of front end, and running brake lines. Then front bumper next. I probably will do tubes off the front of the frame rails after boxing them in because I am sick of plate work, and then possibly mitered tubes for the lower tube for the bottom of skid plate.
