We just wrapped up a little off-road trip in the Sweetwater mountains north of Bridgeport. The camper performed flawlessly as expected, never even needed to lock the hubs but I did use 2low most of the time.
Before the trip the camper got a full prep Toyota style which included only a tank of gas and clean the windshield.

me the wife and dogs hit the road about 330 on 395 N., stopped a few miles before Bridgeport to sit in the travertine Hot Springs

after the soak we proceeded to Bridgeport to grab some dinner.
Ate at a dive bar called rhinos, had steaks and a few gin and tonic‘s then proceeded to work our way to the mountains.

The plan was to start on the east side and work our way up to Paterson summit and come down the west side. We hit the dirt just after dark, took the tires down to 17 and grab the road sodas.

This was our first time exploring these mountains and I had a route planned out on my Gaia GPS. About five or 6 miles the road kept getting smaller and smaller until we got to a Tunnel of trees. I hopped out of the truck and walked through the tunnel and saw it opened up after about 100 yards. We said fuck it and plowed through the tiny opening scratching scraping the shit out of the camper. We did another quarter-mile and found the trail to be practically impassable. It was late and we decided to play it safe and turn around, and push the chinook through the tiny tree tunnel one more time. We set up camp at an abandoned mine and cow corral just below the tunnel. Here is what the tunnel looked like in the morning.

Since that road didn’t work out for us the next morning after some coffee we backtracked down to the highway and started to go up the west side of sweet waters. This ended up being a way better plan. We worked our way up to lobdall lake. Because of the dry winter the lake was more like a puddle. The trees were starting to turn and provided some awesome scenery. There was still some smoke haze in the background but at least you couldn’t smell it

We did another few miles past the lake and then headed back down the hill. This trip was just a quickie and we were going to meet friends that afternoon to celebrate a birthday party. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the Patterson summit I will try again when we have more time or maybe my Tacoma and can actually drive faster.
