I have a 1st gen Tundra and the factory front 7.5” diff is notoriously weak... looking to upgrade and I have my eyes on a 2nd gen Tundra front diff reverse rotation 9” clamshell

I would need to shorten the width of the overall diff/axle tube to match my frame/suspension mounts. Has anyone ever shortened the diff tube/axle tube of an ifs front diff?

Diff is on driver’s side, extension tube is on the passenger side. For reference:

Is it as simple as cutting out the center of the extension tube as necessary, gluing it back together and getting a custom “stub” axle made?
