Fuckin ey. I was wondering this same thing when I replaced my unit bearings the other day. Could the flange on the unit bearings be redrilled from a 5 on 135 pattern to 5 on 5.5?

Re-drill for sure. i did that on the 01 8.8 f150 rear axle under my shit box. went from the 5x135 to 5x5.5 on the stock axles and good to go. The hubs on the front should have enough space to do it as the difference in spacing between 5x135 and 5x5.5 isnt much.

Get larger studs with a bigger spline and mill the new pattern on top of the old one. You only need them to be .050ish bigger to cover the original holes.
That's a good idea, original studs are 9/16 I believe, the rears are 11/16 , I can overlay em and see how it looks, I imagine going from this odd 5x135 to 5x5.5 (139.5 mm) should be close enough to match holes.
