Made a little gas filler neck piece for a buddy's C10 project. 18GA cold rolled and some silicon bronze. Also worked on the cage in the family truckster. I'm almost ready to drop it down so I can weld the top and put in the rest of the tubes.

Did some more work on the cage, welded up the bottom of everything then dropped the cage down to weld up the tops. Such a time consuming process, my out of position welding needs dome work too. Its getting closer, step by step.

Upgraded my cordless tool from some 15 year old DeWalt 18V stuff to the new Milwaukee Fuel. Holy shit these are nice. I have the Drill, 1/4" Hex impact, 1/2" drive mid torque impact, grinder and sawzall. I highly recommend these tools. I should have upgraded sooner.

Good progress! What do the “drop down” holes in the floor look like?
I’ll post a picture tomorrow. The holes are pretty ugly from a combo butcher job courtesy of me and a drill, tin snips and a sawzall. It doesn’t matter though as they will be totally covered by flat plates on both sides.

Are you going to plate the cage to the cab or weld something up to the bottom plates?

The amount of meat you cut out looks like those plates could push right through.
Yes, I’ll tie to cage to the body with some 18ga sheet metal. I’m also plating in the bottom plate to the frame. The actual Jeep floor pan really don’t do anything once it’s all done. That’s why I wasn’t worried about cutting huge holes.

Cool!

That undercoating looks like a nightmare. Between that rubbery undercoating bullshit and the dirty “galvanized” body/frame plating that you said make the welds kinda contaminated, you should probably take proper precautions whilst welding and hold your breath.

This is how I am imagining you are going to tie the cage through the floor plates and into the chassis channel reinforcement plates:

Exactly! I think the first one came out pretty good. I’m trying like hell to get this thing to KOH in February. It definitely won’t be “done” but I think I can get it far enough along to actually drive it in the dirt.

And yes, the under coating is terrible to deal with.
