Hey guys, is it true that a 9” wont work with the factory gas tank? If so, what 8.8 axle is most popular for widening the rear while keeping the factory tank? Im looking for something ~65” wms-wms. My front is at least 67” wms-wms.

I'm also looking for a wider rear axle for my exploder and many people suggest the econoline rear ends. Is there a thread with info regarding the 8.8 and 9" rear axles? Compatable years, WMS comparisons etc...

The back looks like it has some space to move around but I don’t see how the transmission side of the driveshaft has enough room... does anyone have pics of the 9 inch with a stock gas tank

Allright well thanks for everyones input! For 35” tires do you all recommend 4.56 or 4.88 gears if Im still daily driving it?

Agreed, 4.88 is a good in between. I have had friends who run 5.0, 5.13s that they drive to the desert.

I had 4.88s with my sohc 5 speed and 35s, and it was a touch revvy on the freeway but not too bad and well worth it in the dirt.
